at least the apple store gives you an answer if you ask if you can oc the processor, they start talking about intel turbo boost but at least they give you an answer

Pretty clever how you managed to tell us how good Apple is.

In every basic tech store they will answer your questions about overclocking...

I just wanted to say that in comparison to OP's conversation at least they tried, I have played baseball with a hammer and macbook pro, so not really rooting for them, I would have expected dell to outdo them.

Neither, actually. If you reread both my post and what the support rep said, and do a little research, you'll clearly see that what I said was perfectly true.

 

The GTX 760 TI is real (Source: Nvidia). It happens to be an OEM-only rebrand of the GTX 670.

The GTX 760 TI does support 120 Hz monitors (Source: Every mid/high end dedicated GPU does). Thusly, it is capable of 120 FPS gaming if you have your settings configured for that (note that the rep says "up to").

The word "seamlessly" is not a number (Source: Grammar).

 

If he said that it would run Far Cry 4 at 4K Ultra at 120 FPS, that would be a complete lie. If I'm reading your conversation correctly, he didn't say any specific numbers.

Generally speaking, we would take "seamlessly" to mean 60 FPS, which the GTX 670/760 TI will most definitely will be able to achieve in modern games depending on resolution, settings, and the game itself.

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems

If you took an i7 4790K and an i5 4690K and compared them while using the same GPU in gaming, there would only be a few FPS difference as current games do not utilize the hyperthreading of i7 processors making them perform pretty much the same as an i5 would in gaming.

If a 760 can fit in the X51, then I don't see why a 980 or similar wouldn't be able to, all that would be required is a slightly more powerful PSU.

Ah OK to me this was no surprise. Their chat and telephone service often is in India etc. So I had similar experiences with Microsoft chat, they where not helpful at all and I felt like I new so much more about windows 7 than the customer support guy on the other side of the line.

But of you go into a store mostly they wouldn't lie into your face. So yeah they also don't do that at Apple. But try an Apple chat and maybe it's the same there, idk.

I know. I friend of mine is customer support in HP and he doesn't know s*it about laptops and how they operate. I really find it interesting how they hire people like that, who lack any knowledge in the field at all. 

 

Because if they hired people who know technology then they will probably end up losing sales because they know their products are shitty :P

Technically he didn't lie to you. The 760 TI does exist (albeit as an OEM-only rebrand of the GTX 670), and since it's a 670, it does support 120 Hz monitors.

The definition of "seamlessly" can be somewhat variable. The 670/760TI won't run Far Cry 4 at 4K Ultra at 120 FPS, but it most definitely will run games like Far Cry 4 at an acceptable framerate if you adjust your settings.

 

 

So let me get this straight:

-You talk to support rep with the intention of trying to make him say something that's false.

-He doesn't say anything that's technically incorrect

-You "record" the conversation and post it to a tech forum

-You then tell everyone that what the rep has said was incredibly stupid

-Everybody succumbs to peer pressure and joins in a circlejerk around the false idea that the rep has said something that's completely untrue.

 

'Classy.
