Which order do you prefer?

virtualTune

Hey guys,

I just had a discussion with my friend about which order of building your PC is best and I figured I'll just ask the community see what you have to say

Let me here what method you guys prefer and why

Have a great weekend!

CPU into motherboard first (obviously).

If using an air cooler, then air cooler first, then whole thing into case. If using a closed loop cooler, radiator attached to case first, motherboard into case next, and attach water block to motherboard last.

Personally B as it's the easiest method imo.

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

Just edit the OP and on the top right there should be a poll option

I prefer B.

I feel that it's easier to do because I have more room to work with.

All depends on the case and the cooler for me, some coolers will have to be installed once its in the case because of space or weight restrictions, having as much as possible built beforehand is preferred though.

The CPU will always be in the motherboard though, and if I'm testing I'll use the stock heatsink whenever possible then apply my own TIM after...

when would weight restrictions keep you from setting it all up before putting it n the case?

Just some of the bigger air coolers, like the Noctua dh14, Silver Arrow, PH-TC14PE etc can be a bit heavy/large, if space is already tight in the case it can be a bit awkward lowering it in by your fingertips while getting the I/O lined up, I have big hands though.

I'm assuming that you mean "the fan" as in the heatsink or other method of CPU cooling, in which case it would depend on how it worked; for example, many AIO water coolers would be easier to install after the motherboard and CPU is already installed in to the case.

I prefer B, but it depends on what cooler I'm using. For air coolers, I can't see a reason why not to choose B.

B is just the quickest and easiest :)

I prefer mounting it inside the case if the case has a cut-out. That way I can route all the cables before possibly limiting access to some areas, especially if the cooler is large (doesn't really matter with WC blocks). Doing it this way is a must for AIO LCs unless you want to have the radiator dangling all over the place as you mount the MB.. PCIe cards are the last thing to add though.

Like everyone else has said, option B if using air coolers (it's the easiest) but if I'm using watercooling it would be option c.

it would be difficult to install a motherboard with any large cooler in the way, I barely could plug in my 8 pin cpu power cord.

Just try to get the of screws in a mid tower ATX case with modern after market CPU coolers in place..A or C is much nicer..if you use the stock cooler..than B may work..but stock cooler?..come on..!!..just use nails..

Your best effort is the easiest thing to give to someone else..
