  • internet  6LowPAN
  • better privacy
  • 2.5x faster
  • devices with 4.0 or 4.1 will get 4.2

It was possible for existing Bluetooth 4.0 adapters to support Bluetooth 4.1 with a software update, and we've contacted the Bluetooth SIG to confirm that this is also the case for Bluetooth 4.2.

Introducing Bluetooth 4.2 , the new bluetooth specs are promising later devices with implied 4.2 version will be ablt to go online without having to set it up manually.

The Bluetooth 4.2 standard is ready now (internet access is due within a month), but device makers will still have to implement it before you can see any benefit.

Device makers will still have to implement it before you can see any benefit. You probably won't get to use 4.2-capable devices until sometime in 2015

Bluetooth Core Specification 4.2 makes it better with multiple ways to connect to the Internet,

New Key Features include:

Low-power IP connectivity
The latest version of internet protocol (IPv6/6LoWPAN) for Bluetooth Smart devices

Bluetooth Smart technology gateways
Internet connectivity with the flexible Bluetooth Smart Generic Attribute Profiles (GATT) architecture.

Meaning that A Bluetooth Smart sensor can access the Internet (send and receive messages) Bluetooth Smart Internet through a gateway device

Highly Secure
Features FIPS-compliant encryption ensuring confidential data stays that way with LE Secure Connections standards. Meaning that A Bluetooth Smart lock or other smart home device provides industry standard security for added user confidence during device pairing

Sync data quickly and reliably.

In 4.2, Bluetooth Smart is up to 2.5x faster with a huge packet capacity increase nearly 10x more versus previous versions. This gives 'Over the air' firmware updates for a Bluetooth Smart device are up to 250% faster and more reliable

More power efficient
Introduces refinements that make Bluetooth Smart even more power-stingy.Bluetooth Smart technology introduced in Bluetooth 4.0 is a feature within the Bluetooth 4.2 core specification

Privacy
Keeps Bluetooth Smart devices from being tracked with Industry-leading privacy settings as default.

LE Privacy 1.2 , Meaning that A Bluetooth Smart location tracker can only be followed by the owner or trusted group all while consuming less power

Bluetooth 4.2 is not replacing Bluetooth 4.1 or 4.0 , it extends the functionality set already provided by previous core specifications.

The Bluetooth qualification process remains the same for all Bluetooth specifications.regardless for the introduction of 4.2 standards..

YES! Will it be a stronger signal? I'm actually pretty happy with whatever I'm running right now, as I can have my computer in my room, and go into my dad's room and still get good signal (like 10-ish feet and 2-3 walls away).

Increase privacy will prevent snooping, which is great.
But sadly, it will not remove your Snoop Dog albums. Ho ho! Look at Bytes trying to be funny!
