The 970 makes way more sence for almost every build. I just got the 980 only because I'm building a Mini ITX build

970 fits perfect for 1080p and 60hz. If you're gaming at 144hz i don't thin a 980 will bring that big of a difference anyway, i guess a 980 would be better for 1440p and 60hz.

<snip>

That's a really neat overlay to show real-time performance of multiple cards.   Too bad the color choices are terrible for a color-blind guy like me.  It would be easier if he used something blatantly contrasting like black, white, yellow, and blue. :P

970 for 1080P gaming.980 for 1440P and higher resolution.There is hell of a difference between 970 and 980 performance.I you want to persue value cards,get 970 and overlock it get the power of 980 at stock levels.

What do you think is good for 1440p or 144hz?

20% difference in fps

70% difference in price

need I say more.

where do people get these numbers from.

970 is like 400 after tax

980 is like 600 after tax

(give or take deals)

it's 15% (~1/6th)  more performance (once OC'd) for about $200 (1/3rd) extra cost.

Or in other words 100 for actual performance, 100 for flagship premium.

980 for 1440p

144hz = 144fps so i don't think a single 980 can reach constant 144fps with maxed out graphics on AAA games like FarCry 4, crysis 3, battlefield 4.

I know that's why I was asking what you thought was good lol. I have a 970 now and I'm planning on keeping it for a bit, but it seems past the 980 there's nothing unless you feel like getting a titan....
