I have an M8. I love the build quality and how it's cold in the morning. Everything is mostly great. But there are problems. It slips from my hand all the time (without a case) when holding it in one hand my palm tends to press on the screen which is really annoying and my latest problem is the virbrate motor died so I have to ship it back for RMA. But I love the phone. Easy to root and customize, and sexy to boot. I haven't used the G3, but my girlfriend has it and I haven't heard her complain so...

Any problems with heat or cold?  I know metal can feel extreme sometimes when it comes to temperature

I haven't really noticed any heat except when I overclocked it. Cold happens but it quickly warms back up.

LG G3 lags because of its quad HD display. It's CPU and gpu are not strong enough to run it fluidly.

M8 is definitely a good phone. But I think you should look into something else.Maybe wait for oppo N3?

Installing a different launcher eliminated all the lag I was experiencing with mine.

Honestly, performance is not an issue on either phone.  The G3 has a bigger, higher resolution screen, and a better (spec wise at least) camera.  The M8 wins in the build quality and battery life departments though.

Software updates have fixed the lag

And at OP, if you don't want the G3, then go for the Z3
