The game is highly inefficient. In addition, the game engine may be caching textures into VRAM.

Even SLI 980s can't run ACU on ultra and pull 60 fps :/

@farhanorakzai But who in their right mind buys two 980's to play games in 1080p? lol... That's like me saying my old 550ti could run ACU ultra at 800 x 600 ;)

@jkraghify I've been playing it at 1080p because framerate is really bad at 1440 or 4k

@farhanorakzai My point was that SLI 980s should max out games AT LEAST at 1440p. 1080p is supposed to be unheard of with SLI 980s. FC4 is a crippled game and can't run well on even the best cards :/

emnnnnn...not true...i have 2x970's SLI and i run unity not below 60fps where there are many people, on roof took 100fps and in interior even 90/110fps, altought there is stutter some time, game with 1.2 patch and last Nvidia driver, my spec :

4790k 4.4ghz, 4.4ghz cache 1.187v

Gskill tridentx 2666@2800mhz cas 12-14-14-36-2t 1.71v

Pov Gtx 970 sli a 1420mhz (i can't flash any bios to unlock over 106% power limit :( )

I can post photo too if do not believe me!!!

I believe you, but what resolution are you running at? Before the patch the 980s couldn't handle it. At 1080p, holding 60 fps was possible, but any resolution beyond (even with the 980s) was not possible.. When somebody buys two 980s, they probably plan to game at 1440p or 4k or use some sort of surround setup.

I didn't know about the patch though. On launch, the statement I made before was true.

Nice rig man ;)

at the beginning before 970's come to me i had a single r9290 that with eyefinity scale much better than Nvidia surround...using 3x asus vg248qe 144hz at 3240*1920 with the sli can't run over 35/40 fps...that is insane, because at 1080p with 4x msaa i get +double fps like i said before with same vram draw...i dunno...so i switched to a single monitor again :P also i have the sli because i really need more frame, with 144hz monitor, i hope in future i can see a 2560*1600 120fps ips monitor, than i switch to that, or maybe a good tv like 47/50"

Interesting... a NBR user with a 980M (8GB) doesn't cross 4GB at 1080p regardless of settings, but other games (like Evolve, Shadows of Mordor, etc) do. Maybe resolution is the difference for vRAM for that game?

Either way, #Ubitimization at its finest.

Nice voltage on the 4790k.. U must of won the lottery on that one as mine at 4.5 run 1.3 volts... I can push it to 1.55 at 4.9Ghz even 5.0Ghz on 2 cores but is the bleeding limit of it... Seriously i would not bother increasing the power limit past 106%... When i bench cards i find they actually perform worse as you will always hit the thermal limits and force the GPU to a lower mhz anyway... Unless you have waterblocks on them that is... I would take those voltage increases with a grain of salt mate... Sorry just realised i got rid of that 4790k and i'm actually running a 4930k in this rig.. my volts will be completely different....

Yeah mate i have only pushed this at a minimum of 2560x1440 yet yielded a VRAM total of between 4.1 to 4.7... At 4K even with 6gb it will stutter past medium with FXAA and HBAO+(if i add ultra into the mix it is unplayable and if i try run anything past SMAA x2 it crashes) .. I am currently playing it on my 4K screen at 40-60fps with Vsync enabled(which my 4K only pushes 60hz so i don't care)... I have gone back to playing other games until patch 3 comes out... I would like to see this on my 144hz ROG swift with gsync but everytime i even mention it people think i am bragging...

Meh. Unless you're spouting it when nobody asks and it's not relevant to the topic, it's not bragging. Well increasing resolution does that naturally. That's a lot of a bump for resolution only though. 1080p to 1440p should be like 50-100MB at MOST. Hell, 1080p to 4K is like 600MB extra at most.

Also, does AC:U have SMAA? MSAA is something entirely different than SMAA... and SMAA M2GPU is a disgustingly unoptimized form of AA nobody should use.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

Yeah sorry typo its MSAA, yet if i push it i find frame rates suffer badly.. I'll post some pics of GPU-z later with it running at 4K with my settings on AC unity.. Although i might get high frame rates they dip up and down badly... And cannot for the life of me deal with screen tearing..

Yeah... people aren't using MSAA at 1080p because of how the game runs normally; that probably explains the extra vRAM you saw; from multisampling + higher than 1080p res.

Man, I really really hate this thing of "let's use above 4GB vRAM as much as possible" devs are doing because of those stupid underpowered consoles. Seriously, by leaving all of the textures higher resolution even when it doesn't need it (like a 2048 x 2048 helmet texture is pointless), it sharpens the game textures and gives a better impression of better graphical fidelity on a lower powered system. But PCs don't have a free 6GB floating around for the above 900p most of those bloody consoles use, then couple with multisample AA that most of the consoles don't use either and you find a recipe for "hey, we need 8GB GPUs soon pls nVidia, AMD" real fast.

*sigh* Sorry, small rant.

Hey mate did a really quick show of the VRAM i use at 4K... Sorry i took these from my phone camera.. The First is a pic of the scene i used, something simple just standing in front of the fountain with some ambient inclusions, the second my VRAM at only FXAA.. Third is MSAA x 2, Fourth x4.. Admittedly i really i don't think people should need MSAA at 4k but even with FXAA it still maxes out especially for people that have 980 4gb cards... 1.jpg2.jpg3.jpg4.jpg5.jpg
