What games do I need to play Garry's Mod?

Forece
Go to solution Solved by Jack.EXE,

Technically, you only need any source game (TF2 is free)

HL2 (ep 1 & 2 as well) are recommended, as well as CSS if you want textures to show up right.

if you want some more content, DOD:S is also a good buy.

Hello everyone!

Like the title said, what games do you need to play Garry's Mod? I know that you need CSS, and I have it. What else do I need? What are the most essential ones?

Thank you! :D

Pretty much any Source game. It's worth keeping an eye out for Valve's complete pack in the Winter sales, I've seen it go down to something like £20 before. If you see it at a good price, it's worth picking up.

Just buy the orange box and you'll get all the textures.

This is the best answer.  Most content in GMOD is from the orange box.

To play murder, deathrun and trouble in terrorist town - I've only ever really needed TF2 and CSS.

If you're a PC gamer, you owe it to yourself to play most of Valve's library anyway. They're often on sale for very cheap and I can't think of a single game not worth every penny.
