can i use a blu-ray drive from a PS3 in my PC?

Mr.Sommer-Hansen
Go to solution Solved by Volbet,

If I remember correctly, the PS3 uses a proprietary PATA connection, so you might have to redo some pins on a old PATA ribbon cable.

You would also need a motherboard with PATA support of course.

I second the decision on using it as a media center. It can do Netflix and it can play Blu-Ray movies. What's not to love about that?

My old PS3 is just gathering dust and I'm just about to throw it out .. but it would be fun if I could reuse some of the parts .. I was thinking about the blu-ray drive, but are there other parts to use? (besides the HDD)

Remember to follow your topics and quote members whose help you want :D

Why would you throw out your PS3 O.o It's still capable of playing newest games O.o

And like @ShadowCaptain said, you can use it as a media center :D

This is a great idea. You could either just upgrade the in build storage in it or just plug up a external drive. And if you have any friends or family over and enough controllers, play some couch games.

And if you were not already aware, you can put a CD (music) into the ps3 and copy it straight to the HDD which can be useful.
