Need a recommendation for a PSU

Sinros
Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

Would a Seasonic M12II-620 (Evo Edition) be a good choice? or is there anything better with nearly the same price tag? (SeaSonic/Antec/Corsair/CoolerMaster only - no stock for other brands in the shops I can buy from)

Yes, that's good.

You didn't mention the price tag--we wouldn't know.

I decided to overclock my nice old pc and get a new graphics card for it, over the past month I saved more money to use on it and now I'm not limited to buying a GTX 750 Ti or cheaper xD

The problem is I still can't afford a totally new PC so I'm going to overclock my current one and add a nice R9 280X Toxic or WF3 to it...

System Specs That The PSU Should Be Able To Run:

MB: GA-MA785G-UD3H

RAM: 6GB DDR2 (4 Sticks total) @ 800MHz

CPU: Phenom 2 x4 955 Black Edition @ 3.8GHz (Currently Stock @ 3.2Ghz - Want to set it @ 3.8Ghz)

Water Cooling: Corsair Hydro H60 (I'll get a better one soon...)

- Would be nice if you could recommend some good cheap fans for push pull too (was using 2xArctic F12 @ 1350 RPM and one of them broke)

SATA Devices: DVDR, 1TB HDD @ 5200RPM, 128GB SSD

PCI-E: Trancend Expansion Card for 4 Sata 3 Connectors (Only 1 is used) & 2 USB3 Connectors (Only 1 is used) (Single card)

Case: Lanboy Air

- (Thank you Linus for your review that made me buy this 4 years ago  <_<with a total of 5 fans (excluding the 2 on the rad) ranging from 0.1A to 0.6A.

Graphics Card: Sapphire R9 280X Toxic or WF3 (Would be nice to hear your opinion on this)

USB Connected stuff: Mouse, Keyboard, 2xExternal HDDs, 1 Card-reader, 1 Flash drive (USB stick), 1 USB WiFi Card.

The budget for the PSU is 200$. Thanks!

Will you crossfire?

No... This card will probably last me the 4~5 next years (I don't really care about how the game looks as long as it is playable)

Silverstone, Corsair, Cooler master and Fractal Design all get my nod. If

money isn't really an issue than 750-850 watts is more than enough for what

you're running. Each of those brands should have a gold rated power supply

in your budget just pick which ever one you like. Obviously the cheaper you

go within these four brands the better you'll be because you'll be able to

put that money toward a CPU, Motherboard and ram upgrade in the future.

Just to add you don't need the highest watt power supply but if that's

what you've budgeted then that's what you've budgeted, an 850 will carry

you over to your next build in the future, a 650 may not. Don't spend for

the sake of spending but get good value for you money when you can.

Good luck.

Stich with XFX, Antec, Seasonic.

I try to avoid recommending Corsair and Coolermaster as a whole because MANY of thie units are not good. In the case of Coolermaster some are downright dangerous.

IF you really want t ogo Corsair ONLY buy form the HX, TX, AX units. For Coolermaster, the V and VS series are the only solid choices.

550-650w is more than enough for your system.

I would not buy a 600b for a gaming computer. It is not a great unit and barely any better than the Corsair Cx units.

There isn't anything in particular about a gaming pc that would make a 600B any less suitable as long as the psu covers the power draw. While there are better units available, the 600B isn't a bad psu and can often present great value.

The 600B has quite low hold up time. While not a bad unit at all, there are certainly MUCH better units for only a few dollars more or even for the same price. An XFX550 would be most ideal here.

It goes for 109$ for modular and 99$ for non-modular and thanks.

I have that same CPU & the CPU will bottleneck anything above R9 270.

If you plan on upgrading the CPU in few months then fine, get the 280X.

For a power supply, 550W is more than enough. Seasonic 550RM gets a nod.

The SSP-550RT would be better if you don't need modularity: http://en.ksp.co.il/?uin=18382

Otherwise, the HCG 620M is just an improved M12ii: http://en.ksp.co.il/?uin=17395

What is the different between the M12II-620 and the M12II-620 EVO

The Evo is an updated and modular 'version 2' of the m12ii.

Thanks, so I'll probably go with it because of esthetic reasons... (my case and hardware are blue, and the Antec PSU is red...)
