Scientists have found a few planets in the "Goldilocks" zone around a sun. I'd be surprised if there was absolutely nothing on them

If you believe in aliens, you better be theist too or else you're a hypocrite.

That's the most retarded argument i have ever heard

Of course not. The universe is really big, perhaps infinite, and, obviously, there's only life on this planet. We fuckin RULE!

Now, seriously, after you have any kind of inexplicable experience with sighting stuff on the sky you really start to wonder. That's what made me, anyway.

After that occasion, I just spent a lotta time reading about it and taking my own conclusions regarding life outside Earth and religions that talk about it.

But, bottom line, if any intelligent extraterrestrial beings are aknowledged by governments or just start making massive apparitions, then whoever didn't believe in it will have to believe and whoever believed in it is just gonna be less surprised. If nothing like that happens whilst you're alive, it won't have made any difference in anyone's life.

So, who cares? Just be happy with whatever you believe in :)

Although I'd reaaaaaaally love to live in a Star Wars/Star Trek/Etc universe where you could travel to other plantes just like you travel to another country.

What do you know Sherlock, you don't know how planet goes around the sun. :P

Oh God, that again! It’s not important!

Ps.

It's easier for me to know that you're talking to me if you use the quote button

Let's not derail this thread further though..

We can't prove that nothing can go faster than light, merely that nothing we have detected is capable of doing so.

I refuse to believe it because it doesn't make sense that life would evolve here as well as on other planets, with no possible way to communicate or travel between the two, mainly because of the fact that a species, stuck on one planet, is doomed to extinction regardless of the amount of technology they develop. I find it way more likely that we simply haven't found a way, rather than it being outright impossible. I do realize that the distance between solar systems within the same galaxy is absurdly huge. I just refuse to accept the possibility of traversing that distance as being impossible.

Could I be wrong? Of course, but I find it equally likely that Einstein was wrong, it makes no sense to me that nothing can travel faster than light. I could argue that we merely cannot, or have not, detected something moving that ridiculously fast.

I just find it more likely that our understanding of physics and the universe is lacking.

Meh. I would argue that Einsteins assumption that one would need an infinite amount of energy to exceed the speed of light is ridiculous since infinite is an illogical and unreal number. I just don't think they have it right, it doesn't make sense to me.

You can continue believing our race is doomed to extinction if you choose, I choose not to.

Quantum action happens instantaneously if I remember correctly, need to ask @LukaP about that, I think he/she is a physicist

Also, I'd like to know what evidence you, or any scientist, have that light is the absolute speed limit of the universe. The fact that we can't find or detect anything faster, is not evidence to that.

Absence of evidence, is not evidence of absence.

Okay, just to set this misconception straight, it is not an assumption of Einstein's that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light. It was a consequence of special relativity.

Einstein's assumption was that the speed of light in vacuum is constant in all reference frames. This is actually not even an assumption, it is a fact, proven by Maxwell at the turn of the 20th century.

Maxwell's equations led to Lorentz's equations (as described by Einstein as well), which describe the dilation of time and contraction of space. And it is these equations which reveal the fact that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light.

The speed of light limit is a consequence of what happens to time and space when you approach the speed of light. It is not an assumption.

And regarding space travel, of course we can't know if we will be able to do it. But there are some compelling reasons to think we can.

We're already working on theories based on general relativity that would allow us to complete interstellar travel. Most of them are based on the idea of moving the space in front of us, to behind us; or, shortening (by means of mass or energy) the distance to the place we want to travel.

The problem herel, is that quantum entanglement (or quantrum action if you prefere) is not sending any information, in the form of mass or energi. It's mearly determing a state of being for a particle.

The speed of light is only the theoretical top speed for information

If we, as humans, were to travel somewhere, it would demand that we send mass (ourself). Therefor we would be limited to the speed of light

Yes, this.

quantum action has been observed to be 10,000x faster than the speed of light. I think...

Yeah it's observed to be instantaneous (or nearly), but see above.

Agnostics believe that until there is proof, there is no life.

Aliens proven yet = No

God proven yet = No

Do you have proof of any other life forms out of earth? No

Do you have proof of a God? No.

well.. they have found micro organisms in mars. are those considered aliens? if there are micro organisms in mars then think about what that goldilocks planet that is in the next galaxy over can have.

Space Journal #1: So Apparently i  was dropped on the moon like i'm a mars rover, in a matter of hours i have found the transformers on the dark side of the moon. Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.
