Can you even prove that it costs less? We're talking about a pretty power hungry machine with two GPUs, likely with higher power consumption than most of the people's computers on this forum. This is between 80 plus and non 80 plus. The difference between bronze and gold is nearly negligible.

5-10% efficiency is negligible to you? It actually does make a pretty significant difference in your energy bill, especially when you have a two-way SLI configuration that will be running heavy workloads.

No, because that's the minimum requirement to meet the specification. The actual efficiency rating would be higher than that, and even if it was a 5% difference, it would still make a pretty big difference because it's consuming so much power already.

How much power are we talking about here? How much money? Even considering a 24/7 machine, it will rarely run at even 50% most of the day. We're talking about a 10% max difference and that would relevant if we were talking about something along the lines of 24/7 folding.

How much power are we talking about here? How much money? Even considering a 24/7 machine, it will rarely run at even 50% most of the day. We're talking about a 10% max difference and that would relevant if we were talking about something along the lines of 24/7 folding.

The OP should expect a return on investment within a few years. Even if it was $10 a year saved, it's still enough to warrant the purchase of a 650W Gold PSU. Either way it's up to the OP.

Hi Guys,

 

Thanks for all your input. I think i've decided on the psu i'll be getting.

 

XFX 650W XXX Edition Modular PSU. This costs half the price of the XFX 750W Pro Series and i think i'll put in the extra cash into upgrading the GPU to the gtx670 instead of the 660ti.

 

If there's anything detrimental to this choice, please let me know. Otherwise, i'm pretty much good to go=D
