I overclocked my I7-4930k because it's watercooled and I changed my RAM from auto to its correct speed of 1886mhz. It wouldn't boot up for some reason and when I changed the settings back to normal it still wouldn't. I even updated the motherboard to the latest bios. Still nothing. Its not the drives cuz it won't boot up from the Windows cd. It just crashes or stays infinitely at the Windows starting screen. Not sure what to do. Should I continue to update the motherboard through usb on stuff like ram or ohipset etc until the problem is fixed? Thanks to anyone who answers been stuck on this for a few weeks now.

What do you mean? My cpu temp is like 30 degrees Celsius.

that was just a question, you said water cooled and not everyone mounts the block correct etc. et.c

Also when I put it in AHCI mode, it just stays infinitely at the Windows starting screen. On IDE it crashes

so i assume you installed in AHCI mode? if so that why it crashes in IDE mode

have you tried booting into safe mode?

Clear CMOS and try again :P

How?

Really you attempted to OC with out knowing something as basic like resetting the CMOS?

Anyway to reset the CMOS it depends on the motherboard.

There might be a clear cmos button on ether the motherboard it self or on the back IO.

if not you need to pop out the cmos battery for a a little bit then put it back in.

it should tell you how to do this in the motherboard manual.

How?

Pull out the CMOS Battery and wait a few minuet and your MB should reset all the settings. Make sure the Power is OFF! you dont want to damage anything including your self ;P CMOS-Battery-3.jpg

Actually yes, overclocking is as simple as putting a profile in. And I already resest the cmos and I already knew how before but I couldn't find the button for it on my mobo. I ended up finding it on my own I asked how because I couldn't find it in the manual. And it still doesn't work.

Yes I have tried safe mode. Still crashes

Oh your your not OCing your self just adding a pre made OC profile for your CPU.

Which means you have no idea what kinds of voltages your pushing thew the CPU.

And no idea what settings your cpu can handle before shutting down.

The profile you set it to could have had waay to high of a voltage bump which could have overloaded your CPU.

Sense not all CPU's can handle the same settings due to the silicone lottery.

So its possible that you damaged your CPU in the process ether making it unstable at stock settings.

You could try to ether lowering the voltage manually sense its possible to under volt cpus and see if you can get it stable that way.

or even flat out lowering the clock speeds to see if there is anyway to get it stable that way.

Or you can just return it if its still under warranty and get it replaced for a new one.

It's a water cooled I7-4930k averaging 30 degrees Celsius, and your telling me that a 600$ cpu can't hold an overclock? Well then.

Hm ok thanks I didn't even consider the cpu being damaged. Is there a test I could run to find out?

Im not saying it cant hold a overclock however not all i7 4930k's can hold the same overclocks.

Which is why using a pre made profile is a bad idea and just because your temps are low.

Doesn't mean your CPU is stable temps is not everything low temps on a low as possible voltage is ideal.

And well the fact that the PC wont boot properly at stock settings is a pretty good sign that the CPU is damaged.

The only other thing you can do to test it is to install it in a different system and see if it still wont boot in to windows.

Well dang, I hope your wrong but tbh I don't know of any other problems. I'm gonna try to undervolt it first and then try it in a friend's system with a similar motherboard.

Thanks. If there's any more info you could give that ne great.
