1 1440p monitor vs 2 1080p monitors

jd2195

I am looking at getting a new monitor soon, or maybe 2, for when I upgrade my graphics card. I am currently using 2 rubbish 1440 x 900 Dell monitors so any upgrade is going to be a significant improvement. I am looking at either getting two 24" 1080p monitors, not sure which ones and I welcome suggestions, or getting one 27" 1440p monitor. If I where to go with the 1440p monitor I would have to get a Korean monitor and would probably go for the X-Star DP2710 and then use one of my 19" as a secondary monitor.

I am going to be upgrading to a Asus Strix GTX 970 so my first concern is would I  be able to run most games at max settings on the 1440p and what would the gaming experience be like on it with a 8ms response time? What would you go for?

My rig: i5 2500k, MSI Z77A G45, Gainward GTX 980 Phantom, 8GB Corsair Vengeance, OCZ ZT series 750W PSU, 1TB HDD, 800D, fully water cooled. I am currently working on modding my HAF 912+ to fit a custom loop, here is the build log: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/165963-project-viridis-water-cooled-haf-912/

Too bad there's no 24-inch 1440p monitor (that I know of), which would be my choice, but I'd still go with one higher resolution monitor than 2 lower resolution monitors.

I'd say 1440p, I switched from 3x 1080p to 1440p, I like having 1440p more since it's so much better looking in terms of picture quality.

I'd go with the 1440p monitor over two 1080p monitors. The gaming experience at a higher resolution will be more worth it than having two lower-res matching monitors.

A 970 will be a great card for 1440p, as it's a bit better than the 780 which most people considered to be a great GPU for 1440p gaming. Maxwell OC's like crazy, so the 970 can perform really close to the 980 (not the same, but a lot closer than the price difference would suggest).

GtG time isn't really that important to your gaming experience (don't confuse GtG time with response time/latency). I have both a Korean 1440p  60hz (also 8 ms) and a Asus VG248QE (1080p, 144hz, 1ms), and the difference is somewhat minimal. The difference is definitely there, but I wind up playing most of my games on the 1440p monitor because the higher resolution does make things just look better.

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems

Ok thanks guys, I will go for the 1440p monitor then, the only thing that is going to annoy me is having two different monitors on my desk but that is not a huge issue. One other thing, I can either get the monitor from the uk eBay here:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Perfect-Pixel-X-STAR-DP2710-LED-27-QHD-2560x1440-Samsung-PLS-Panel-/221239034169:

which as you can see costs £240. Or do you reckon I can get the monitor from the US eBay site from this seller:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/X-STAR-DP2710LED-PLS-Panel-WQHD-2560x1440-27inch-Computer-Monitor-/330932578190?pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item4d0d1e678e

which costs around £200. They are both coming from Korea so I cannot see an issue with using the American site but I do not know, does anyone have any experience with this?
