officiallyasimulator

Hey guys, as the title says, are audio-technicas worth the price premium they carry, or is it another apple/beats by dre situation? for music listening and gaming purposes.

Supposedly...

I've tried a few stuff from them and they're pretty good. There are cheaper options, and the M50 is just plain awesome.

honestly for a real answer though they produce a flat signature i believe. great quality.

if you don't like flat signatures though these aren't really for you unless you like sliders

It depends on the model, but most of them don't really have a "flat" curve. Audio Technica's sound signature usually has an emphasis on the highs. They don't really sound too analytical but they can be used for light/hobby music production IIRC.

OP, Audio Technica makes some amazing products but you definitely pay a slight premium for them, depending on where you live. The price in japan is actually totally okay, which is why I imported my pair.

Really?

I always thought they were studio monitors.

Never thought there would be an emphasis on highs if anything.

huh you learn something new every day

Again, it depends on the model. The M series are their studio monitors with a fairly flat curve, while the A "air" series definitely emphasizes the highs and lacks a bit in the bass departement.

Really depends on the model. For gaming, the AD700x or AD500X make for good cans, and they have closed versions as well if you want some bass.

audio-technica products don't carry a price premium, it's just that the only products you know about are premium products. They make tons of cheap stuff.

m50 is 50$ more expensive, ad700x as a new product that used to be very popular is overpriced and especially their gaming headphones hold price premium

M series are far from flat, if you want flat you get sony mdr 6 and its only 100$, ancient headphone, angled drives- had sony for decades

audio technica is actually cheap in australia.

ad700x is really good for positioning and gaming

well!!  I myself have ATH-AD900X and it sounds fantastic.   Very balanced/spacious sound signature.  It's an all around excellent headphone.  Their ATH-W1000X sounds even better and have premium build quality.   I have the Senn HD-558 and my AT's demolishes it in every way.

the flattest audio technica is the M40x, but even that has some shrilly highs.
look at DT880, flatter than flat itself, FLAT IS JUSTICE!
