Plex is coming to the newly announced Nexus Player and Sony's Vizio smart TVs

Maybe this was the update that Plex was talking about a little while back. Who knows, but either way, it's awesome. So Plex is further expanding its reach by it now being available on Sony's Vizio smart TVs and on the Nexus Player. In fact, Plex will be one of the go-to apps available on the Nexus Player from the get go. I'm assuming that the app will come free to Nexus Player users, but I honestly have no idea.

Either way, this is exciting news! I personally have a Sony Vizio smart TV, so I should be able to get the Plex app. The thing is though, the only time I use Plex on that TV is locally, so there's no need for the Plex app. But if it's free, then yes, of course I'll download it and use it.

Plex deserves all of this love, and I'm happy to see them expanding so rapidly.

(As you can see, the Plex app is available on the bottom of the screen, next to Hulu Plus and PBS Kids.)

I love Plex a lot and use it everyday. Such a good service to use and the best for organizing your movies and tv shows. So happy to see them expanding.

Thats not how it works. For example my p4 from 2005 likely streams better than yours due to the network.

But why shouldn't that work? It shouldn't cause any problem playing it locally, and most people will start there when testing and conclude that if it doesn't work localy, then it wont work over the network

Because, your encoding the video on the pc your hosting the Plex server with then streaming it to another device where it gets decoded, playing it back on the same pc means its both decoding and encoding on the same device which is more work on your system than necessary.

And the CPU usage was very low,  anyways.. *shrug* Oh well, any form of encoding is not acceptable for me anyways, I want just a good interface for playing of my videoes directly from the file

It looks perfectly fine for 99% of devices, if your anal about video quality then build a freenas and a htpc

People should not be allowed to talk about Plex without it being an Eve reference, I get confused otherwise
