GTX 980 more expensive than 780Ti

TehMiik

Hey guys, everyone I talk to about the GTX 980 says that it's so cheap comparted to the 780ti and performs better. I have to disagree (in England anyway), as for the performance, I can see that MOST of the time, it beats the 780Ti as it is just newer technology and can overclock like a God. However, in the UK, I can get a brand new Zotac 780Ti for £300 on eBay whereas the cheapest used 980 costs £440 on eBay! Will it get cheaper or is that just the American and Canadian thing? Please answer my question.

The 980 is cheaper than the 780 titanium. After the price drop, no. You can't expect it to be at that point. The 780ti, was retailing for about 700$, the 980 is retailing for ~600$.

the 980 is new they have to make back the development costs therefore it cost a little bit more then a 780 ti while performing near the same

Well yea, it depends on the regions. But basically the 980 is God and 780ti is Jesus. :D so.. yea.

I think they mean the GTX 970.

970 Doesn't beat 780 Ti. Is there with the 780 slightly better.. slightly.

The blood on to your heart start pumping faster when you notice me.

With all due respect, i have been using eBay for around 5 years and have even gotten my current 3930k about a year ago for £300. I have used Overclockers for cases and they are extremely overpriced when compared to eBay.

Its a really good time to be looking for a new graphics card. Not only do you have the 980 as an option, which is a slight improvement over the 780 ti for slightly less than what it was going for, but you have the 780 ti dropping to less than 450 in the US, and the r9 290 has dropped to less than 300 and the 290x for around 350, along with the 970 for 330-370. Then finally you have the r9 295x2 which beats every SLI and crossfire setup besides two 980s, has a ready to go warrantied liquid cooling setup, and whose price has dropped to 1000. This gives people lots of options.

I'm torn between a 290, a 290x, a 970, or a 780ti. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those. I think the 980 is priced too high to be worth it though.

If you look at the launch prices of the 780ti and the 980 then you see how much cheaper the 980 is.

The 780ti launched for around $650-$700 US while the 980 launched for around $550-$ US600

It wasn't until after the 980 launched that the 780ti dropped in price.

The price drop is most likely retailers reacting to the uneven price to performance ratio between the two and them also trying to clear out their old stock to make room for the new 980.

Once the current stock of 780ti is exhausted the prices are going to shoot back up.

Never get old Tech if you can help it. Older or last-gen Components lose support a year or two or sometimes three before curren-gen does. Also, it is less efficient so in the end you actually pay more for the older tech, even when it is priced lower up-front. Always get the newest, best, most expensive products you can afford/feel comfortable with, in the end you will have a better experience.

I think the pricing in the UK is silly. There is almost no point in getting a 980 because the 780ti is way cheaper and only a bit more expensive than the 970. Nvidia need to sort their pricing out.
