Good build for the budget of 2200.00?

Unilision

So after completing my build, and helping out my cousin, my brother took interest and wants to build his own as well, he plans on using up to $2000.00 CAD but hopes to go low as possible. No peripherals needed or OS and usage will focus on gaming only.

The only 2 thing that can't be changed is the 32GB Ram for whatever reasons he said that can't be changed. Also the 980, he plans on doing 2-way Sli later in the future. If you think there's a better case than provide a good reason and any thing can be changed from there thank you. Good luck as well

I prefer to make it under 2'000 but not sure what to change.

You picked a gigabyte board, will this be a hackintosh? Also switch the nzxt with the fractal design r4 then you can get a second ssd.

There's a chance he could be use water cooling at one point but I'm not sure as well. Meant for future changes if anything

No it won't be a hackintosh and I find that design rather bland tbh

You really need to convince him to get less than 32Gb of RAM. The most intensive games still use less than 8Gb. Unless he is doing photo/video editing he is basically throwing money away. I went with 16Gb in my gaming build and even that was overkill. You could drop his power supply to a 750w and spend the money saved on a nice single or dual monitor setup. Such as the VG248QE. - IF NEEDED

^^ Hes right. 32GB is insane.

going 8 or 16 would get that price drop you're looking for.

I could be very wrong

same performance, more quiet and your children will still use that cooler, yes indeed is not that good, but it gets the job done, is gold and is ok, is not like the energy won't run through those cables.

Still overkill, but it puts in work. 32gb of RAM is just stupid for mostly gaming. I know you said keep the 980, but for the price it isn't worth it. Getting 2 970s is much better. Enthoo Pro is a kick ass case with tons of room for upgrading. Downgraded to 750w because 850 isn't necessary. Coolermaster Seidon 240M is a bit better, and it's a tiny bit cheaper. MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Motherboard is a great mobo with tons of features. Crucial SSDs are great SSDs and you probably won't have any issues with it.

I prefer to make it under 2'000 but not sure what to change.

32GB of memory is an absolute waste of resources.

The NZXT Phantom 410 is a mid-tower model with looks similar to the Phantom 820 but is almost half the price.

To get under CA$2,000 simply go with 2x8GB memory kit and the 410. You might also consider going with a Seagate Barracuda 2TB drive which would save a bit more.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

I suggested the Nanoxia Deep Space 1 in white. It's like the Define R4, but it's less common.

Its enough money to get a decent build with a 5820K. I also dont believe in building a PC "just for gaming" as i would rather build a well rounded PC so that you can do whatever you want with it when you expand what you want to do. Also with X99 or any of the higher end platforms you have more room for expansion withe the more PCI-E lanes among other things.

You are looking at roughly $500 extra for an X99 build when you factor in the cost of 16GB DDR4, the 5820K and a decent X99 board.

The extra pci-e lanes won't make much difference - http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Impact-of-PCI-E-Speed-on-Gaming-Performance-518/#Conclusion

$500 more for little gain.
