Hi, Today i received my new 980 reference from Gigabyte and it is not working, i deleted previous drivers (i had a 770) and i have tried it in more than one PCI slot so i dont think it is that problem.

I currently have an i7 3770k and 16gb of ram in a 750d but i dont really think that i relevant. I had exactly the same problem with the 770 when i first installed it but i took it to a computer shop and they fixed it for me

but they are closed tomorrow so i cannot ask how they fixed it. Any help will be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

George

If the computer shop told you how they fixed it then they would no longer have any customers xD

Boot from onboard, open windows and see if device manager can see the attached card.

What power supply are you using?

That's one of the most important factors...

What motherboard you are using?

That would be useful as well...as some motherboards have a feature to detect RAM / Graphics Card / etc.

What Operating System are you using?

Windows 7? 8? 8.1? 32-bit? 64-bit?

  • Ensure the card is installed in the PCI-E X16 slot properly, and properly secured at the PCI expansion slots from the computer case. The card should not sag....by much (if any)
  • Make sure both the PCI-E 6-pin power connections are connected, and connected properly.
  • Make sure your monitor cable is connected to the back of the graphics card, and NOT the to the motherboard's rear I/O.
  • Check to see if the BIOS is set to use the discrete graphics card, and not the on-board graphics...("Auto" settings works too).
  • Install the latest stable drivers directly from NVidia's website.

If the computer shop was able to fix it, it should be something rather simple (in most situations).

I have a RM850 and a z77 Extreme6, The card is not visible in device manager or BIOS

Wait, so you are using the onboard graphics then?

Because...how are you able to see anything on your monitor if the card isn't detected / doesn't work...

Just to add, make sure none of the cable connections on the PSU end didn't get loose while you were fiddling around in the system

Do this first.

I'm hoping it's not a defective card, but saying you had a similar issue with your GTX 770, it's not likely but still probable.
