Thats $350

You do know SSD speeds won't really matter?

Just get an 840 EVO, as it'll still be fast enough.

The bug that slows down the drive over time? The patch is coming.  :D

Why do you need that much performance though?

Indeed it is (for consumers), you asked which one is the fastest ssd, not the best budget ssd...

If you need a recommendation on a budget ssd give us more info.

He did say below $300 - the fastest 512-750GB SSD below $300 is fairly specific, although there are several you may be able to recommend at that price point.

EDIT:  maybe a samsung with the RAM cache software?  that does make a distinct difference.  Though I'm not sure which ones don't suffer from the longevity read issues.

Whatever the cheapest SSD is atm.  512gb ones don't suffer on reads/writes, and you're never ever going to notice a 10 or 15 or 20mb/s sequential performance difference.

We do know that speed is also effected by time. Old data will read and write slower than newly written data.

My EVO doesn't even seem any slower. It might be because it's less than 1/4 full but...

From SMART tests, I still get 470mb/s.

I have noticed when moving a folder with new and old data. When it gets to old files it drops to like 40MB/s. Then it goes back 120MB/s. (This is on my HDD, my SSD is faster)

Also. mb/s is different from MB/s (Just to not cause confusion in the future)

that price aint enough for a high ends ssd. for completion the faster ssd i saw is a 10.25 TB server ssd at 7gBps thats about 15 times as fast as a normal ssd. but is 120,000 dollars

for that price get a 840evo its fast enough and cheap and you won't notice a small difference in speed. if you need speed(like recording RAW or uncompressed video in 4k or above) get a pcie ssd.

Also are you a new mod or just someone who changed profile pics?

Probably haven't changed my profile picture since you joined, but I've been a mod since ~the inception of the forum - current work/uni commitments don't give me a whole lot of time, though, so you might not see me post much.

2x256gb 840s in Raid 0....

Not a bad point to make actually, although the improvement isn't markedly faster. If you can get two 250GB or 256GB SSDs for the price of a 500/512, and you have spare storage space/connectors, I don't see why not.

Edit: To clarify, even if you don't want to RAID0 the drives, I would still personally take two smaller drives over one large one. Gives you a fallback SSD - if one fails you aren't stranded without a boot drive while you get it repaired under warranty.
