Windows 9 Leaked Video

SeventyPointThree

I hope they don't break the cycle of a good and a bad OS.

95 was good. 98 was bad because of copywrite issues(although not bad to use), 2000 was good, ME was bad. XP was fantastic, Vista was awful, 7 was great, 8/8.1 is bad for most usage scenarios without tweaks

can we get somethnig that works out of the box for both windows desktops and tablets, and even hybrids?

  • 3.11 was good
  • 95 was good
  • 98 was good
  • 98 Special Edition was better
  • 98 Millenium Edition was bad
  • 2000 was not a consumer windows, and does not count (but it was very nice)
  • XP was bad in the beginning, XP SP2 was good
  • Vista was better at launch than XP and was good if you had the hardware (just like XP)
  • 7 was really good
  • 8 was ok, 8.1 is really good.

There is no good/bad cycle. And yes I've used every single Windows version mentioned in my post. People don't seem to remember how buggy and unstable XP was at launch, and how almost no drivers existed for it. Both Vista and 8 had a huge back catalogue of legacy drivers for hardware, so you could use them at launch. Everyone hated XP when it was launched, it used too much memory (like Vista was criticized for), looked ugly (like 8 is criticized for) and crashed almost as much as 98 ME.

Watching Intel have competition is like watching a headless chicken trying to get out of a mine field

Apart from the standard cycle of releasing a ''payed beta'' followed by a stable OS. Microsoft pushed it even further with ''function inflation targeting''. By removing a basic function such as the start menu, only to reintroduce it as a revolutionary concept to bring customer satisfaction back. Which is obviously only available with the brand-new revolutionary OS!! !!

ARGH, why the fuck do people keep spouting that bullshit? It never was removed, they just made it fucking bigger and icon based because a tiny and narrow list is NOT practical. Of all the nonsensical crap that people complain about Win8, this is by far the most stupid one.

Interesting~ I allways heard of the virtual desktops and such and to be honest I never used Linux, but now seems that windows will force me to use it. It does look nice, rly. The UI seems to have shadows?! Pretty cool. I like it, hope is easy to use for every1 and FAST.

Well, they are using the start menu as one of the main marketing feature of the new OS. After Win 8 release, most users wanted to get the start menu back. They saw an opportunity to capitalize on this ''issue''. Rather than simply adding the damn function.

I really like the design of windows 8, but windows 9 (or simply windows) seems a bit too cartoony.

Which is dumb, because it was never gone. It's just a bigger version of it with space for more stuff and actually more than just one column. Mind blowing, isn't it?

If they bring back the F8 boot menu, that would be great. Nothing annoys me more than having to wait for a users' spyware-infested install to load the home screen, then having to press Shift+Restart to get into the boot menu. That was one of the most dumbest things that Microsoft did to Windows 8/8.1.

About the multiple desktop thing, they had their own app for this for years now.... "Desktops" it is semi officially supported and downloadable on the Windows Technet page http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb842062 Although I have to agree that this implementation is a lot better.

I've been using WinRT on my Gen 1 Surface for about a year and half now and its good on that device. I've been using Win8.1 Pro on my SP3 for about 2 months now and its good on that device. I've been using Win8.1 on my desktop for about 2 weeks now and I fucking hate it. The start menu is nice and dandy but not if you have a high res screen and you only get a few rows of apps and the rest is empty space. It lacks soooo much custimizability options, I run multiple monitors and those fucking hot corners (which I love on my tablets and beat Android easily) are driving me fucking nuts and no you cannot turn all of them off, the bottom right one (by far the most annoying one) all ways stays on. Win8.1 might be good from a technical stand point and might have some nice features. But as long as I cannot customize those features to suit my needs I don't care about them. I don't want features, I want options and I don't have time to dig through the goddamn registry for every option I want or have to download a new program

Now can this help me do my homework?

Can people seriously stop mentioning that damn thing? Really. We got it already. You can stop sucking the start menu by now..

Whish the demo would have shown a little bit more than "Create a desktop, switch, delete". Hope you can reorganize them, send a windows from one to the other, etc...

It is so funny that these "gamers" end up promoting the very image that they are trying to detach from; basement-dwelling naked fatsos who have never even heard of the term "outside".

Counter-intuition at it's finest!

On topic: We will see what happens at launch. There is so much conflicting information out now that we cannot be certain what features is included or not. Personally, I could not care less about the start menu. I just want Aero back.

The virtual desktop part seems nice, especially if you want to have like one desktop for coding, one for recording, one for multitasking and just surfing, and last but defenitly not least gaming.
