Hi guys, I have a XFX Radeon HD 6990 which runs at these temps

Idle: 45-52 C
Load: 86 C
Standard profile, so the fan only comes on at around 85-90 C up to 50+% otherwise it's quiet.

I've bought Arctic Cooling MX-2 thermal paste, and wanna switch out the stock one, since it's helped on other GPU's I've had,
however research shows that AMD says the 6990 has some special compound, which MX-2 probably can't beat anyways?

Should I do it? Will it have a positive or negative effect? Anyone tried?

Quick comments, throughts, ideas are very much appriciated!

Doesn't the paste's performance degrade over time? I'll say the "special" paste is actually not very special. Re-paste your 6990.

New paste, no point in not doing it.

Yeah, pastes turn to crap over time.

Wow, thank you SO much for the quick replies!! I've had really good experience with it on other cards.

Should i apply in a pea size for the gpu chip, or do a cross?

Which do you think is best with MX-2 on this card?

-Also, any idea how many years XFX warranty is on this card? - Never switched bios or OC'ed it.
