GTX970 vs R9-290

Sintezza

So i thought it would be fun to start a thread my self up here.

I want to discuss about these 2 gpu´s, because im looking for a new gpu myself.

The reason why i start this thread, is because i want to see allot of benchmarks and sources about these cards, and which one is the better card overall.

The reason for this is because i see diffrent numbers sometimes.

Some benchmarks show me a tie between both cards.

Other show me a win for the GTX970 in some games.

What i am looking at.

i´m looking at a card for 1080p gaming.

Cards that i am looking at:

- Gigabyte GTX970 G1 Gaming

- Sapphire 290 TriX OC.

Things i dont give a shit about:

- Powerconsumption.

Future plans:

- maybe 1440p

- maybe triple 1080p.

Bring it on Guys, impress me :D

p.s no flame wars and stuf, i want a clean discussion.

I would go with the 970, I heard it overclocks like a champ. It also runs cooler, but I'm assuming you don't care much about that.

Firestrike with a 14k graphics score!!! http://www.3dmark.com/fs/2843055

On extreme i got a 6300 graphics score.

Check out the base clock!!! :o

My 290 never even came close to those.

If you get lucky and get a good OC 970 it will match or even beat a reference 980

Conclusion:

The 970 perform like a 290x and can overclock to perform even better (especially with the crazy binned gigabyte cards).

So far in BF4 and Dayz, wow, total war 2 rome and D3 yes it has. It is a smoother gameplay and has better features. DSR is great and even works on Windows. I can set windows to 4k resolution. Even at my high clocks i never see temps go much above 62c and it is quiet.

The only advantage the 290 has is bus width but Maxwell is more efficient with delivery so it is a wash.

yes thats the interessting thing, the GTX970 has allot less cuda cores,

but compression technology, and the super sampler is realy interessting.

but it seems to be very hard to find some decent 1080p benchmarks.

And compairissons between both cards pure performance wise.

Both cards are on the same price, so thats why i like to discuss about them :)

A source i found sofar.

It seems like the GTX970 realy runs away in BF4 on 1080p

thoughts about these benches? :)

I went and used Shadowplay to record a sample of BF4 gameplay. I just ran around like a chicken to show you the fps. I will post it once it uploads.

GTX970 Gaming G1 all the way, running one myself, I had a GTX780ti and switched to the GTX970,

it's meant to be SLi but they only had one card in stock, so will be getting the other one next week.

Here's a quick and dirty overclock and Firestrike score (Not Firestrike Extreme)

Thanks guys.

So it seems like that the GTX970 is realy the better performing card for 1080p here

The R9-290 seems to be only a deal breaker wenn they are going to massively drop prices.

Most things i see that the GTX970 is indeed not that far behind on a GTX780Ti.

That it consumes allot less power thats offcourse obvious.

i would love to see some Skyrim, and racing games benchmarks aswell.

Because i like racing games allot lol ;)
