Budget Mic for streaming/game chat so I don't need to PTT anymore...

tehgray

Looking for something I can leave on that won't pick up keyboard/mouse/air conditioning noises when playing games like CS:GO where teammates need to hear footsteps rather than your racket. I'm also not comfortable spending $80 on a yeti since streaming isn't serious right now, and not sure if it ever will be.

A mute button would be very nice, seeing as I can't seem to find anywhere a simple way to assign a hotkey for muting microphones, and going into sound settings every time for a mute is a hassle...

So something under $50 I can pair with my HD598's would be nice....

ModMic is probably the best option. You could also take a look at some headset microphones but those won't be fun if you already have headphones on.

Is there an easy way to deal with the dual cables with modmic/headphones? I love the hd598 for it's cord length since I can walk around my room easily, but would hate to lose that due to cords tangling/twisting

You can use Velcro to keep the cables together. I haven't used it personally so I wouldn't know how well that would work, but I have a lot of friends that own the Mod Mic 4.0 though.

Modmic 4.0 or Blue Snowball.

I didnt think I could get the snowball to work without some major setup with a popfilter and arm..

No, it'll pick you up quite nicely and cancels out background noise quite well.

How does it compare to the yeti?

I use the Snowball mic for my stuff, its not perfect but it works well enough, sometimes it has driver issues but that may be related to age of this particular mic.  It also comes with a mic desk-stand, nothing fancy but it works. But when I can I want to upgrade to a better set up. I see some twitch streamers using them but I would say that you should take a look at the mod mic as well.

Really? How come? Snowball doesn't seem to have anything the Yeti doesn't.

The only way to compare the Yeti and Snowball is by listening to both mics on YouTube. There should be quite a few of these comparisons.
