Graphics Card Decision!

Go to solution Solved by Aniallation,

I was wondering, what would be more powerful. A Raedon r9 285 Running in two way crossfire or a single Gtx 980? Both Choices are similarly priced.

980:http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvn980g1gaming4gd

Thanks! :D

They will perform very similarly, you won't really notice the performance difference, however a single 980 will use a lot less power and run a lot cooler.

The 4GB of VRAM alone makes the 980 a much more attractive choice. I would say spend a bit more money though to get SLI GTX 970. That would be the strongest solution.

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

You only need a 700-750W PSU for 2-way SLI GTX 970 and even that is a bit overkill on the wattage :P

If you have reference cards, 650W could probably be enough too.. (probably not, don't kill me if you try it and your PC blows up)

Well dual 780 Ti in a synthetic load using the reference cooler uses 625W peak (Check Linus' 4k video) and the maxwell cards use less so a 650W PSU would be enough :P. A 700-750W gives more room for devices and OC'ing though and is better for power draw spikes.

I thought the same thing, but you still didn't answer the question. :P

If I had to choose one of those the GTX 980. However I recommend getting GTX 970 SLI instead if you can afford it and have a 700-750W quality PSU
