Australia's spy agency to get power to tap unlimited devices

XTankSlayerX

I have a hard time believing ISIS attacking Australia. Like I have mentioned before Australia is worth

fuck all in terms of global politics and furthermore is entirely irrelevant in the region ISIS operates.

And before you say they will attack us because we are a western country, go and check the New 3DS released in Australia topic on the forum and count just how many people don't even consider Australia western.

This sounds more like a governmental scare tactic to pass some laws like, ohh, this one.

ISIS won't attack Australia for anything other than control in their home region at the moment, However having said that there have been plots uncovered that link similar groups to planned attacks in Australia.

It really is a lot more common and complex than it looks on the surface:

The laws are not unfounded, just poorly worded and probably designed to be to capitalise on the situation.

Race and terrorism arguments aside, the fact that the govt is trying to pass something like this is not a good sign. Always gotta have more surveillance...

It's happening now because of the incident in victoria where a extremist planned to kill 2 police officers and behead them and drape their bodies in a isis flag.

You shouldn't rely on opinion pieces that cite no references to support their claims.

Professor Greg Barton at the Global Terrorism Research Centre at Monash University disagrees with that somewhat, He claimed on 3AW that the laws, even though  they were controversial,  were also necessary due to the nature of the Australian legal system.  The whole interview can be listen to on 3AW.

No these laws were first suggested long before, as I said it is a very complicated situation and for all the BS governments usually try to pull over us this one isn't like everyone is making out.

Hey the US did the same thing a few years back after 9/11 and they totally didn't use that to tap into civilians without probable cause or warrants.....wait....

Australia did too, but the Australian laws have hardly been used.  And the last couple of times they did try to use them they found the legal system was unable to support the police on the ground and that's why we have these amendments, almost 13 years later.
