Dragonball Z?

Anybody? In their youth? Watched it for days? Marathons? Vegeta getting shit on by Akira Toriyama(creator) even though he trained harder than Goku but of course he never was stronger than Goku? Krillin being useless? Piccolo being the brains?

Good times.

But it seemed vegeta always trained harder but was always behind goku after that.

true, because goku can never be beaten twice by the same person, that is one of the qualities of a saiyan (and dieing alot doesnt hurt)

Then the Buu saga was drawn out for too long, Uub was dumb, the ending to the anime was shit and GT was an abomination after it. With the Super Saiyan god thing and the movie, maybe the series will get a revive.

uub was cool, they just never let him do anything, it all had to come back to that JERK goku, all the damn time.

Look at this fight, look at the ferocity.

He fused with fat buu and became even stronger... but never mind, baby eats him and goku needs to come in and save the day.  HE WAS THE COOLEST !!!!!!  I am still mad at what they did to him.

I am impelled not to squeak like a grateful and frightened mouse, but to roar...

Uub was OK imo, but not that great a character, but he wasn't bad either to me.

-snip

Vegeta was never stronger than Goku for one very specific reason.

He was always angry. Whereas Goku was not. Goku (as well as Gohan) were peaceful and friendly, their rage was restrained and bottled up, giving it more power when they needed it. Vegeta was always angry, and thus his rage and indignation over being COMPLETELY OUTCLASSED by a "simple low level soldier" was meaningless and had no effect.

I really don't think that it worked that way. LOL, But it is a funny explanation.

Goku was just naturally talented. (and the main character)

Has nothing to do with rage being unleashed at the right time.

It entirely does. That's exactly what gave Gohan the strength to outmatch cell when cell killed 16, it's exactly what gave Goku the strength to become a Super Saiyan in the first place, when freiza killed krillin. A Saiyan's strength isn't entirely training or natural talent, it's rage, pure and simple.

Goku and Gohan always tried to show mercy to their enemies, and when they'd been pushed too far, they lost their cool and their inner strength came roaring out and they became far more powerful than they ever could simply from force of will alone.

I really don't think it's the reasoning behind it, not even a bit....

It was explained that Gohan has hidden potential (he himself explained it) and that Goku was just talented, that's it.

Nobody ever said something about rage.

Besides, if Vegeta's rage is always 'out' and Goku and Gohan's rage is only there when it's needed, wouldn't that make them stronger anyway regardless of rage? (

The rage explanation is not legit in any way shape or form!

Maybe it's because your version was in another language from mine (I assume, could be wrong) but that is essentially exactly how gohan explains it to cell.

"My dad knows what would happen if I was pushed too far" basically. Their rage, their righteous anger is what gives them most of their strength, yes talent is a big part of it, but the rage is the trigger that brings it out.

Yeah, of course it's the trigger, but it doesn't explain the power gap save for some rage moments (like Gohan desperately attacking Frieza and such but not really having an effect much)

Gohan was really a special guy, hidden potential to the maximum. (Unlocked by Guru, unlocked against Cell, unlocked by Elder Kai)

Goku's explanation was just that he was talented, and there his explanation stops.

They are simply naturally stronger.

Also I watched the usual English version. Those were the explanations.

Yes, but my point is that their rage is what enables them to release that hidden ability, whereas Vegeta's rage could not because it had no strength because he was always angry. Vegeta could have had all the ability that Goku did, but he'd never have been able to reach deep down inside himself when he truly needed it.

Not to mention Vegeta's pride and overconfidence always getting in his own way.
