i have involuntarly gave my self a proxy/vpn like situation, sort of...

aidenrelkoff

so when i upgraded my internet Shaw gave me a new modem/router all in one unit, but i wanted to continue to use my old wifi router, so i have one of the 4 ports of on the modem going into the WAN port on my wifi router. This is basically the family's router for everything like our home group. it also has 4 ports, one of which goes to my networking switch (old wifi router that i made into a switch) and then to my pc, server, and laptop.

I made a map to help.

So by doing this, i cant port forward now (tried like 50 different combos of port forwarding all 3 routers) hamachi wont work at all, and from what i can tell it working similar to a VPN, on some sites it showing that im not being tracked and stuff like that xD.

however my internet speeds are still exactly the same speed, so im not complaining.

whats funny though is that if i enter each different default gateway i get a different router.

A VPN does not make it so 'sites cant track you and stuff'

A VPN reroutes your internet connection though different servers usually in a different country so your IP appears to be from a different place. And just because you changed your internet doesn't mean you now have an IP from a different country. Your external IP still tells your location, it's just that your computer's IP is hidden.

You can tell me your router's IP and I can tell you exactly where you live. With a VPN this would not be possible.

Yeah this is not really a vpn situation. All you are really doing is complicating your network by creating multiple networks and double NATing which is why you are having trouble port forwarding. If you wanna use your old wifi router as you normally would then turn on bridge mode on the new router/modem combo. Also it sounds like your so called switch is still being used as a router not a switch. Also if it isn't you should set you "Switch" to bridged mode as well. Then everything should be on one network.
