I've never jumped the gun and bought at launch but seeing those MSI card and me having experience with MSI makes me want to drop on 2 GTX 970s the moment they're in stock on amazon... I sold both my GPUs a week or two ago as well as some random hardware, have about $600 sitting under my monitor and $1500 for an X99 build project I decided wasn't going to be worth it

Seeing as non-reference 970s are already out you guys think it would be worth it to wait? Or am I fine to just jump in.

Also I noticed the GTX 970s don't include the 3 DPs, and I have 3 144hz monitors, just to reinforce DVI-I is backwards compatible with DVI-D correct?

Haha yeah I looked at the Gigabyte, but look at those fans, they just look so plastic, something I wouldn't want to instill my trust in.

i7-4790k/4770k (4770k if you live near Fry's or Microcenter/can get Staples/BestBuy to price match) for sure would make the 970s a better buy. Brand should be irrelevant but MSi is my 3rd-most recommended brand, just after PowerColor due to the PCS+/Devil GPUs. I think you're good to go. They're an investment above 770s but the improvement, regardless of what might happen with them in terms of DX12, will be worth it. The price is just too good.

Edit: Going along with the above posts, the Windforce cards from Gigabyte are truly miles ahead of any non-CLC cooler. By far and large my most recommended aftermarket.

*Raises eyebrows and makes a WTF face* Uhh.. Are 970s really out already? Where? What?.. I leave LTT, my main source of tech news, for less than 24 hours and I miss some of the biggest news in the last year. Please tell me you're bsing (if not, link please?)

3x 144hz monitors is where I get lost seeing as I know far too little about how refresh rate affects performance or what settings you can use (obviously outside of potentially having to hack your refresh rates down below 120/144hz). That question should probably be asked in the monitors section. The connectors issue should be something you can work around but I still think it's something you should ask in the previously mentioned subforum.

The shroud is metal, the fans are plastic. Why would the fans be metal/some very expensive composite?

What?.. Are you really looking at fans spinning above 1200RPM constantly?

I'm a huge fan of Gigabyte because their durability and sheer performance. I don't understand why people hate on them at all.

Oh yeah the original looks ages better, but it's similar in performance and you get the EVGA customer support, build quality, and that step up program, personally I think it'd be damn worth it.

That blue side face has to go though, definitely ripping the cooling unit off to paint that.
