it has a stock intel cooler mounted on it.

Well theres your problem! Get an air cooled heatsink like the hyper 212 Evo

Is it overclocked? If so, what's the voltage?
Its not. Google the CPU and you can see its 3.2GHz at stock. :)

Temperatures are very good as well. With an air cooler you can expect temps like below:

Temperature in Degrees C

idle

100%

Core i5 660 3,20 GHz

31c

59c

Core i5 661 3,33 GHz

31c

60c

Now I need to mention that these temperatures are managed with a stock reference cooler -- you'll reach roughly 60 degrees C / 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Try to imagine what happens when you slap proper cooling on there, the overclocking potential will become tremendous.

Sounds like you have a severe cooling issue. Is the CPU cooler mounted properly thermal paste wise?

Do you have large amounts of dust in your case?

Do you have a well ventilated case?

Please take a picture of your set-up and put it on here.

Also I would be VERY worried about your temps. The Max. Operating temperature for your CPU is 72.7C.

I'm surprised it hasn't burnt out yet or didn't auto shut down at that temperature.

EDIT: If you do not want to burn your CPU out do not let it go over the max operating temp.

I too have the same problem. When i run small ffts on P95, i get temperatures of about 90C on all cores. I'm using a Corsair H100i (Stock fans) running in a pull configuration, a Intel i7-3770k OC to 4.2 stable at 1.188v (CPU-Z) but the bios is set to 1.150v. I'm using a Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H (rather entry level) Motherboard. Here is the problem. When i reduce the voltage, it becomes unstable. But at this relatively low voltage, it churns out 90C+ in small ffts and 80C+ in blending tests. I'm not really too sure what to do at this point. I don't have easy access to thermal paste so that will be my last option. My case (CM HAF 932) has good airflow. Any suggestions?

I think you need to reinstall the heat sink properly and redo the thermal paste.

my cousin had this problem before and the cpu was running way too hot. around mid 60C idle and 90C doing barely anything.

I helped him clean and reinstall his heat sink properly with some new thermal paste and the temperatures are normal 30C idle and 60C while playing games

this might be wrong on an intel, but the newest version of core temp is wrong on temperature when it comes to amd procs. i don't know why, or ever how it can be so wrong, it just is (i downgraded to an older version, it actually reflects and matches my bios and other temperature monitors). try to find 1.0 rc4 and see what numbers you get from that. on the newest version of "core temp" my temperature actually went DOWN while running prime95. maybe it works ok on intel procs, but the newest version of core temp seems like crap software to me (you have to dodge crap add on software to install it, and it certainly is not accurate for my computer)

Have you checked your CPU cooler? I had a similar problem with my Core 2 Duo, at full load it would run at 90+. Later on I changed to a new stock cooler and it was fine, apparently the old pins on my cooler were so worn out, that the cooler barely touched the CPU.

I run a an overclocked I5 2500k on a stock cooler and its temps are no where near that, so im going with what most people are saying here check you put ur heatsink on correctly make sure ur cpu fan is getting correct RPM and try redoing thermal paste.

Voltage is WAAAAAAAAAY too high lol, reduce that voltage ASAP! I have no idea why it's so high...looks like you'll have to reset the BIOS to default because something is wrong. Also, you should probably reseat the Heatsink/CPU, make sure you put a small amount of thermal compound. Might as well remove the dust too.

You should get a new cooler because I don't think your stock cooler can handle prime95.... Get a Hyper 212 Evo.
