Hi people of the forum! I am in the market for a gnu for my first PC build. I am thinking about the gtx 770 as a card as it is in my budget. What I am not sure about is whether to go with Asus' skew or Gigabyte's one. I can't find an anything on the internet so I thought you guys could help.

Welcome to Linus Tech Tips!

For a 770, EVGA ACX is the way to go.

Like buying a green apple or a red apple. They are both an apple and very similar. Whichever one you think looks best and is cheapest is the one you should buy. Windforce might be a tad bit cooler due to tri fans, but I prefer asus quality.

Its all looks these days

I don't recommend the GTX 770. 2GB of VRAM is kinda too little. You would be better off with an R9 280X (3GB) or R9 290.

If you're adamant on the GTX 770 though get EVGA ACX

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

R9 280X sapphire or MSI is what i would recommend instead for better performance and lower cost.

Thanks guys, I will look at the R9 280x, my only question is will it require a stronger cooling set up because AMD cards do have a reputation for being loud.

no the third party coolers are all very sufficient and effective at cooling those cards there's absolutely nothing to worry about...pick sapphire, msi, gigabyte or asus and it will be just fine!

Gigabyte cards go stay cool and quiet but kick the heat all over you case and there are some reports of bad vram on some of them

I never understood this argument. This is a problem for someone who decides case ventilation is beneath them, so didn't bother with fans...

I have shit case ventilation but despite increased temps I have never had a problem with performance or stability. Sub woofer is currently on top on my case completely blocking the top 140mm case fan and it has yet to affect anything. Games still run the same, temps are about the same, stability is the same and so is above all else the performance.

i recommend a 120mm fan as intake and another 120mm for exaust at the back of the case and that should be enough in a standard ATM mid-tower case for any single GPU there is including R9 290's.

I don't think it's making your case an oven as that's a big time overstatement and drama. Open air GPU coolers are the best that's why all the best aftermarket GPUs have them. Never had an issue with them even with cases that have crappy airflow.

the inside of my case with a temp probe got above 65c during a burnin and the direct cu2 ii will exhaust some of the heat out the back of you case while the windforce will not

I once had a case with pretty much no ventilation and my SLI setup was getting hot. For someone reason only one of my GPUs throttles, so the other reached the 102 degrees shut off temperature quite a lot. But when the weather was normal, it wasn't too bad.

Why do you have a sub on top of your case? It can damage your hard drives.

They're worse for SLI setups.
