I just noticed that my routor has a usb3 port at the back and wondering if i can plug my external hard drive into it which is usb3, and use this as a network storage.

It depends on your router, but I think it will (why else would it have a USB 3).

Thats exactly what i said too. Is there going to be any security issues for example viruses since its not within a computer but connected the the routor?

It's just like an external hard drive, but then not via USB but over the network. So you have to scan it yourself (maybe just set up your AV to also scan that location).

Try going to \\192.168.1.1\ (is that's your router IP) in Windows Explorer.
