980Ti

Go to solution Solved by Captain_Slow,

Why is it everyone and their dog thinks a 980Ti is gonna exist? There's been no news, no rumors, and no real logical reason... The 780Ti was the first ever X80 Ti Class card and it's probably gonna stick that way, the only reason Nvidia did it was probably cause the 290x beat Titan and 780 and they probably had plans on the Titan Black but thought the price difference was just too great so they made a middle card card the 780Ti I doubt they wanted todo that it probably lowered Titan Black sales...

I just question why is it everyone assumes it's gonna happen...?

but but but i want the 985 Titan X2 Ti .... Z... Black Edition.... GTX...... Ultra.

You don't seem to understand what the Titans are. They're not gaming cards, they don't compete with the 290. The 780 Ti isn't a "middle card", it's the flagship gaming GPU from Nvidia.

Well the only reason the 780ti came out was that the 290x beat the 780. Nvidia had sat on the GK110 for a generation so it seems likely that they did not expect AMD to be able to compete with the GK110(at the time) seeing how they played it last gen.

they had extra cores on gk110 because they just released the 780 with 35% more performance over a 680 and they didn't think amd would come up with somethign that beat it.

Lol it was a gaming Graphics card... should still be before the 700 series (particularly the 780 and 780ti) There was Titan which was esentially branded "King graphics card" it was known be stronger than 2 of most other graphics cards in gaming; But the 290 series beat it in gaming and @ half the cost and Nvidia sorta dropped the branding and then relabeled it WorkStation

It probably won't be released but the card certainly exists. It just depends whether or not AMD will put up a fight or not performance wise.

Exactly and I don't think AMD wants to repeat last gen

Yeah I know; I'm just curious why people think Nvidia is gonna repeat that xD honestly Nvidia probably would've made the 780ti the 880 and the 980 would be the 980 just pushed back a year if it wasn't for the fact of 290x existing and at a good deal

I agree with you there isn't going to be a x80 ti unless they disabled some cores on gm204

exactly and more proof to my point is last time they did something similar to this was GTX 285 and they scrapped the 300 series and went to 400 series and the 480 was a bit of a flop but thats besides the point the 285 was <probably> gonna be the 380 but as I'm sure we all know "Shit happens"  and they decided 480 sounded cooler... and yeah them doing stuff like this doesn't really make them a good company it just proves there pulling ubisofts crippling a product so another product looks better.

I'm saying on like the forum I see lots of people going "should I get a 980 or 980 ti?!" it's like currently the first doesn't exist, and the second probably will never exist... and everyone goes you don't know what you're talking about look at the 780ti... they just ignore the circumstances of the 780tis existance and look more at the fact it exists...

there's many more factors than if you want it...

I sure as hell am not buying a 980, whether or not a 980 Ti comes or not. Because when it comes to Star Citizen, I might as well be on a 760 with that performance, the 980 will not be able to keep 60+ FPS on ultra 24/7 without a dip, so why would I upgrade from a card that doesn't dip under 40 FPS? They're both in no-man's land.

In that case I'd rather buy a dirt-cheap used 780 Ti SLi set up when the game is about to come out, that some low brow epeen chaser dropped on the used market for pebbles, and laugh all day.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Nvidia's branding has always been all over the place. That double precision comes in real useful playing Skyrim, huh? owait

It will exist. You cannot deny it. Also the market wants powerful AND less power hungry GPUs now. And Maxwell will deliver that promise. The GTX 700 series will be forgotten about almost altogether.

>.>yes it has been and also no but 6GB Vram does when modding like a heroine junkie... and Nvidia branded it not a gaming card THE GAMING CARD; you don't undo that... and also what does Skyrim have todo with gaming? it's years old... but plenty of games no mod free can use over 2GB Vram which remember that's all the 680 comes with (which was Nvidia's best alternative back then...) (also ignoring 4GB models as those cost extra and the card could rarely use it all) Other than double precision what doesn't make it a gaming card?

Geforce, GTX, GAMING CARD, (all it's branding dictates it as gaming)

6GB VRAM, GAMING BENCHMARKS that top there best gaming card(of the time) Gaming drivers, Gaming editions(like ROG I don't see ROG quadros), Overclocking, 4k gaming ready was on it's box!  (Gaming gaming everywhere?)

Workstation features:

Double precision memory

... ... ... ... ?

Yeah totally

I dont think that's quite right xD how many people are still rocking 480s ? That things as hot as it gets... Also who really cares about less powerhungry? how many people have 290s or older 480s  and how many people have 750tis?  People care more about power rather than efficiency Nvidia's just trying to over sell it and I don't think maxwell will increase much atleast not while still on 28nm...

honestly both can come out the lack of 790 is caused by Titan Z not 780Ti.

I've never said anything about titans and I really don't care what the OP said. My point is the 980ti will only be released if AMD's cards this gen perform better than the 980.

Come to think about it did Nvidia just skip the 800s?

I'd imagine that it is the silence kids who care about heat, noise and power. I couldn't care. I had two 480s at one point. Best pair of GPUs I've had by far. Thermals shouldn't be an issue for anyone.

Also is maxwell 28nm? I thought it was 20nm?

There will be a 980 Ti next spring on 20nm architecture. The 980 is still 20nm, and doesn't have any "groundbreaking" performance increase over the GTX 780 Ti, with the only differences being lower power consumption, less heat, a bit better overclocking. The biggest thing that the 980 is bringing to the table is its price/performance ratio as it is allegedly going to retail for 499$.
