980Ti

Go to solution Solved by Captain_Slow,

Why is it everyone and their dog thinks a 980Ti is gonna exist? There's been no news, no rumors, and no real logical reason... The 780Ti was the first ever X80 Ti Class card and it's probably gonna stick that way, the only reason Nvidia did it was probably cause the 290x beat Titan and 780 and they probably had plans on the Titan Black but thought the price difference was just too great so they made a middle card card the 780Ti I doubt they wanted todo that it probably lowered Titan Black sales...

I just question why is it everyone assumes it's gonna happen...?

but but but i want the 985 Titan X2 Ti .... Z... Black Edition.... GTX...... Ultra.

Just wanted to get this off my chest, what I've learned from nvidia's "pattern":

-Never trust "leaked" benchmarks. They can release SLI benchmarks and publish them as single gpu scores. It makes sense to do this as hype-train has infinite amount of seats available.

-Don't ever hop in the hype-train, even if it's inevitable sometimes.

-Nvidia can fuck you over anytime like what they did with 780Ti to Titan owners. I really felt sorry for the guys who bought Titan's for gaming.

-Never wait for a GPU, I did this many times and most of the time you end up buying the same one you decided on long ago. There is always EVGA's step up program waiting for you.

-Don't base your purchases on rumours.

-Every info before the cards are released to the consumers is bullshit.

Also is maxwell 28nm? I thought it was 20nm?

Maxwell is an architecture, not a process node.

The GTX 750 Ti uses the GM107 GPU which is a Maxwell GPU on a 28nm process node.

The thinking now is that the 900 series will also be Maxwell on 28nm, but they may move over to 16nm next year (skipping the 20nm node that has been delayed way too much).

Come to think about it did Nvidia just skip the 800s?

Yes.

Also is maxwell 28nm? I thought it was 20nm?

The 900 Series is 28nm but I may be wrong last i spoke to Nvidia was a while ago...  And yeah but remember the 400 series was known for being horrible in all forms it was so bad that Nvidia had too rush out the 500 series in just under a year iirc and that's after skipping the 300 series...

There will be a 980 Ti next spring on 20nm architecture. The 980 is still 20nm, and doesn't have any "groundbreaking" performance increase over the GTX 780 Ti, with the only differences being lower power consumption, less heat, a bit better overclocking. The biggest thing that the 980 is bringing to the table is its price/performance ratio as it is allegedly going to retail for 499$.

That's mostly based on rumors; and the 980 is supposed to be 28nm just like the 700 series...

I know 980 is 28nm, I was talking about 980 Ti which is supposed to come out next spring on 16nm or 20nm. Also I know "leaked" benchmarks should be taken with a grain of salt but if you compare those performance results to the gains we saw with 750 Ti over 650 Ti then those graphs show a pretty realistic prediction of what to expect from the 980.

as said I doubt the existance of a 980ti I'd sooner see a new Titan or maybe a 1000 series...

Yea most likely they'll pull a 780 again and release Titan II ~ February and 980 Ti with half vram of Titan/ no double precision in may.

nah I dont see that xD plain and simple I don't see a 980ti ever.... I see 980 competing with AMDs top card(TBA) for a bit going neck and neck... And Titan drops clearing the market; Look up the HD7000 series, and GTX 600 series and GTX Titan<note the word black shouldn't be here> card... I don't think Nvidia or AMD likes how the current series turned out and would rather repeat the 600 series

This has been an amazing series for AMD I mean the price to performance has really never been as good as with the R9 290.

It has been but I'm sure AMD would like having the crown of overall best performance aswell like the 7970 had over the 680...

I've never said anything about titans and I really don't care what the OP said. My point is the 980ti will only be released if AMD's cards this gen perform better than the 980.

Come to think about it did Nvidia just skip the 800s?

Oh... it's just you quoted me for some reason and I was talking about Titans.

>.>yes it has been and also no but 6GB Vram does when modding like a heroine junkie... and Nvidia branded it not a gaming card THE GAMING CARD; you don't undo that... and also what does Skyrim have todo with gaming? it's years old... but plenty of games no mod free can use over 2GB Vram which remember that's all the 680 comes with (which was Nvidia's best alternative back then...) (also ignoring 4GB models as those cost extra and the card could rarely use it all) Other than double precision what doesn't make it a gaming card?

Geforce, GTX, GAMING CARD, (all it's branding dictates it as gaming)

6GB VRAM, GAMING BENCHMARKS that top there best gaming card(of the time) Gaming drivers, Gaming editions(like ROG I don't see ROG quadros), Overclocking, 4k gaming ready was on it's box!  (Gaming gaming everywhere?)

Workstation features:

Double precision memory

... ... ... ... ?

Yeah totally

Lol Skyrim is ironically the only game that most people will ever see use 6GB vram in the near future so I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it as irrelevant. Even for 4k 6GB vram is MASSIVE overkill in any ordinary situation so that would imply it's not there with gaming in mind. And thirdly the price point. Titan is basically a 780, the Titan Black is basically a 780 Ti as far as gaming performance is concerned, yet the Titans are double the price. However their marketing departments might have described the GPUs they are not gaming cards. They are cards that can game and will do it extremely well, but not gaming cards.
