Hey,

I'm planning on a build and I was going to put in a GTX 770 4GB however I'm now considering a R9 290 because of the statements on  the latest episode of Tech Talk (JayzTwoCents). I'm planning on moving to a triple 1080p setup though I will only be using dual 1080p when I first build the rig. I love my cards to run quietly, i don;t mind about power consumption just as long as they are quiet. This brings me into my second question, which R9 290 runs the quietest? I'd prefer a Sapphire card if I were going AMD but the Tri-X card is orange (is there a way I can change that?). What do you guys think? Also, I can make great use of Shadowplay however i know AMD has there version of that now as well.

The 290 is no doubt way faster than a 770. The Vapor-X is the quietest and faster 290 there is, but more expensive than the Tri-X. You are completely able to dismantle the shroud over the card and paint it a different color if you wanted to.

Quite rightly a 4GB GTX770 doesn't make sense and is overpriced.

AMD has something in their gaming evolved app (Basically a geforce experience 'clone') that does recording with low perf hit, it supports twitch streaming too I believe.

Buy a 290, the popular 'best' models are:

290 Vapor-X (Sapphire) --known to be silent

290 PCS+ (PowerColor)

290 Tri-X (Sapphire)

Ok I can't seem to find a Vapor-X from an Australian retailer. Anyone got any links? Also, if I painted the 290 card shrouds and painted them (with plastidip) would there be any blue/orange left on the card, heat sink, etc?

Found one here.

I wouldn't plasti-dip the shroud because the part that is colored is underneath the black metal plate. I would spray paint it instead.

That is a Tri-X card, not a Vapor-X. Thanks for the info about painting though.

They're pretty close in performance. Vapor-X chips are cherry picked more than Tri-X ones but the Tri-X still performs damn well.

What about silence?
