4 cores 8 threads sub for $200?

Can some one give me some info on why people don't buy Xeon e3 1230v3's? Seems like a great alternative I7 4790 but cheaper then a I5 4690. I've seen them for 150$ on eBay.

People do. They just don't have integrated GPUs and don't overclock. (Without turbo)

People do for budget rendering rigs. But for gaming an i5 performs better.

How so? Almost the exact same core clock, and extra threads?

How many people who buy a unlocked cpu actually overclock it tho? Do people actually use integrated graphics?

No OCing, which gives better per core performance. VERY few games use more than 4 threads/cores so the xeon would perform worse in 99% of games.

Also it doesnt have integrated graphics.

I do, and quite a bit of people who pay for K CPUs actually use the overclocking. Why would you pay extra for the K if you don't use it?

Gamers don't use onboard so that seems irrelevant to being worse for gamers. Also it is not gamers who oc it's enthusiasts.

Every friend if mine, have be it I am a teenager, does not over clock there k cpu. They just got it because people on tech forums told them toEdit: didn't slick say he doesn't even have an oc his cpu any more? And what difference does the extra .4 mhz actually make?

Gamers OC because its free performance...

You don't need to be an enthusiast to overclock a CPU or graphics card to get better fps in games.

Well...

Everyone I know has the 4670K (Except me, I have my boss 3570K) has it to at least 4.0GHz but they are all pretty knowledgeable. (Did not need forum to get CPU)

You do know you can still oc this cpu right? Only a enthusiast would take a i5 past what you can do with the Xeon

Xeons do not have an unlocked multiplier.

Are they purely gamers or are they also enthusiasts? I feel the majority of gamers don't have the knowledge to do it on there own. Also you can get these xeons to about 4ghz

Gamers. Enthusiasts are the people who have SLI 780s and 5960Xs with custom watercooling. (Generally)

Overclocking is something anyone can do.

Okay? You must not be as knowledgeable as you think of that's the only way of over clocking you know of.

An enthusiast is judged by there gear, it's about how they treat it and what they know about it. Gamers just want there gear to work so they can play the games the best they can
Their great for budget 3d modeling, rendering, and Photoshop builds, their not good for gaming.
How are they not good for gaming? If a i7 4790 is great for gaming how can that change when the name changes? Also a potato is a good Photoshop rig :P

Games require better single core performance. Not more cores.

The Xeon is not made for single core performance.

Doesn't seem free to me when it requires an aftermarket cooler, higher priced Z series motherboard and K series CPU.

ASUS B and H boards overclock, but less granular control with H97, everything else (B85, H87 and H81) is fine.

It's the exact same cores as the I7 4770, so how is that point valid? It's not like it's a 12 core cpu on a different socket.

What are you trying to say with that? Most people don't over clock and of the ones that do don't go past 4.2ghz only .2ghz what you can get in the xeons
