Hi guys. Im planning to buy myself a new PC. im looking into 1080p gaming at maximum setting @(atleast)60fps for games like bf4 and FarCry 3, Starcraft II and the lot.

Any suggestions for the parts? I need suggestions for the System unit only, No monitors and peripherals.

My budget is around $1,000USD but i could spend at around $1,500USD.

P.S. I'd prefer a something compact so i can carry it around. I go from my house to my apartment a lot.

If you think it's better to get a laptop, any recommendations? :))

You will not max out every game with 60fps with a 1000-1500$ budget.

I'd either stick with a stock cooler until the Seidon 240m goes on sale for $65 (which is like a weekly event), or just get a Hyper 212, or a Corsair H105 if you don't want to wait.

A single R9 290X will get 30 fps average in crysis 3 maxed out and since it does not have perfect scaling you will not get 60. Also watch dogs, that game is useless.

According to the benchmarks, which are most of the time going through that first level with a lot of rain and other effects going on all at once. That doesn't account for every other level in the game.

I was gonna suggest a non-K processor if you weren't overclocking, but the 4960 is more expensive than the 4960K, and the 4670 is around the same price as the 4690K on pcpartpicker.

Honestly, you'd at least want the Hyper 212 Evo just for good temps, but if you don't mind it and can fit it in the budget, grab a closed loop.

Hmm. okay. noted. because i live here in the philippines, the availability of all the awesome computer goodness is very very limited. and prices skyrocket. T_T i just converted my budget from peso to dollar.

but aside from that, does the R9 280x do the job? oor the 290 is just waaay better.?

the 290 is quite a bit better and will last longer (#future proofing -- don't kill me), especially should you choose to go higher than 1080p.

A hyper 212 is perfectly fine, I just don't like big air coolers, and as such I'd prefer (and did) to pick up a Seidon 240m for $60 when its on sale.

talking about laptops, do you have something in mind? tho this time i wont expect max settings @60fps. just something that'd fit my budget would be great?

Don't get a laptop. You'll be seriously disappointed with the performance.

As for a smaller case...there are a couple of options. mATX isn't great for XFIRE/SLI anyway, and thats one of the few things that mATX has over mITX.

So, i'd look at the Fractal Design Node 304, its a very compact mITX case. And you can pair it with pretty much any Z97 mITX board you'd want.

Something like this:

Now, you can also downgrade to a cheaper PSU...like a 550w~, which would be like $50~ USD. But, there is still some merit to getting a 750w psu--and that is, in the future you can reuse it should you decide to SLI/XFIRE in a future build. There are also cheaper keyboards if you wanted to keep the cost down. And finally, you can get a copy of windows 8.1 from G2a.com for $29 USD. These are supposedly MSDN keys, which expire in 1-2 years--but windows 9 is rumored to be coming out shortly anyway....so it still might be worthwhile to just pick up a temporary copy of windows 8.1. One final thing, mITX does hold a bit of a price premium, as such you can opt for a mATX setup--which is still quite portable for a bit less--something like the Cooler Master N200 is a pretty good mATX case and is only $50~ USD. So a mATX board+mATX case could save you about $70 USD.

Hows the cooler too tall? It supports up to 165mm, the hyper 212 is only 160.

The Tri-X should still be able to fit.

And I didn't check PSU compatibility..so theres that.

Hows the cooler too tall? It supports up to 165mm, the hyper 212 is only 160.

The Tri-X should still be able to fit.

And I didn't check PSU compatibility..so theres that.

sorry, i for some reason thought that it was 170mm. sorry.

but the tri-x is 2 1/2 slots and that wont fit. besides from that he would want a blower type cooler in that system.
