Ok so this probably sounds really weird but, seen as most of the people on this forum are male I assume (not trying to be sexist) I thought this would be the ideal place to ask.

So I have always used an electric shaver and over the teenage years have had to start shaving my face more, for obvious reasons. Now at 17 I would ideally shave everyday like many men however, this causes me to get a very nasty rash on my neck. I believe this rash is called a shaver burn and often leads to shaver bumps. Even shaving every couple of days does not reduce this problem, to prevent this I must allow the skin to heal for a week by which point I look like a gorilla. So my question to everyone is, what can I do to prevent this?

I have tried a number of a pre shave balms etc.

So I spelt something wrong in my post... I don't care I don't read through what I write and I type very quickly.

Apply lubricant to face and shave on top of that with your electric shaver (as long as it's waterproof)

What I do for the area down under is spray it with strong anti-perspirant deoderant and that stops flare-ups after shaving

Compatible with Windows 95

Erm. Wet shaving will generally be better for this, although I also use a leccy razor as I'm 17 as well and can't be bothered to waste time shaving, however my dad, who wet shaves, recommends it as I have fairly similar issues to you, but I shave mainly once every 2/3 days, so I don't get it too bad.

As for the advice first of all don't shave every day once a week is fine.Out there you can find a lot of aftershave creams use one instead of a aftershave that uses alcohol. Also after a shave is very good to wash the zone with soap and water and then apply aftershave

I suffered from same issues as you in my younger years. Best thing to do is ditch the electric razor, they just get dirty snd rarely do a goid compared to a blade.

You have 2 choices now which both work well, tbh this is 101 man stuff....

1. Buy a shaving brush a good razor like something from Gillette, and some foam of gel. Spray gel in hand (this is not for a masty) use brush to work up a lather, use the brush to apply foam to face shave with blade from hot water. After apply balm to cool down face.

2. As point 1 with out the brush, have a shower/bath first to soften skin and open pores, use foam or gel on face again use hot water with the razor to rinse the blade. After apply balm, lotions, potions etc.

If the above goes away after trying these, then comes back... its code for change the blade.

Most impotantly shave the way your hair grows - NOT AGAINST IT.

Also try not to shave 30 seconds after getting up, your face is puffy and can you will feel stubble an hour after the shave.

NOTE: The above does not work on genitals. .

Few days and the rash will be gone, personally I would try No.1 first if you been using electric razor there maybe a chance yoy have in growing hair.

Good luck

Best thing I found at that age was to just deal with the razor burn as best I could, eventually your face will become callous and you won't get it anymore. Or just go full man beard like a manly man.

Use a better razor, I prefer a double edge like merkur razors, or something like the 4 blade dollar shave club one or Quattro.

I like to wet shave in the shower, or immediately after a shower.

Also, even with a good blade I can only shave every other day because otherwise I get the same horrible irritation. I don't bother with shaving cream because I always use a sharp razor, but you do what works for you.

I noticed this too, then when out of need I tried shaving with razers (the cheap throwaways).

It's super easy, it's a clean shave and I don't get rashes out of it.

(If you live in either the US, Canada or Everythingtriestokillyou, go for Dollar Shave Club.
