Can a monitor crash a graphics card?

anyone come accross this before, is it possible for a monitor to be the cause of a graphics card crashing?

Not at all. The worst that could happen is completely FUBAR electrics in the monitor and a spike of power going from the monitor to the card and possibly damage it but you need some next level inferior quality for that to happen.

Anyone with a budget to buy a $3k quadro and skimps so much on other components is practically asking for trouble though :P

Titan Z is pretty decent as a workstation card.

No need though. The Titan Z is pretty good at it ^_^. Just not as beastly as a quadro (Saw someone with a $3k quadro when I was doing business scouting, school assignment, and it was a thing of beauty).

How well does the Quadro actually game? I know it's for Cuda, CAD, CAM etc. but does it actually game well?

You need quote a powerful quadro to match a normal card. A $3k quadro will most likely be outperformed by an R9 280x

If you let the monitor fall onto a GPU it might crash it, otherwise I don't think so.
