Are AMD drivers really that bad?

Go to solution Solved by Archangel1994,

Massively over-exaggerated. I for one hate the Nvidia drivers lol, they look so shite and and have a ease of use of a cow. I have Nvidia on my laptop and AMD in my PC and I have less trouble with the AMD driver than I do with the Nvidia driver.

Edit: Also you can get the sapphire Tri-x for £380, not £400 and you can get a 780 Ti for £460, not £500

Lol so because origin stopped using amd was because nvidia paid them thats the biggest load of bull. I provide a failure rate chart showing how crap amd is yet amd fanboys still talk bullsh**t. I'm done here. My mate is on his 2nd 290x rma yeah amd are great. As for amd being superior how come they can't beat nvidia with temps, power consumption, noise levels, more stable/less buggy drivers and clearly amd can't keep there failure rate down. Yeah amd seem to be so much better than nvidia not!. You pay cheap you get cheap. Good luck on your card hunt dude. I hope you go nvidia and get your money's worth, All the best. I'll see you cheap I'm on a budget amd peasant's later.

Fanboy spotted!  :o

This is a typical nvidia fanboy post, singing high praises about nVidia and laying the hurt on AMD.....how I wish to see something original.

Anyway, I'm currently on leaked AMD Catalyst 14.8 modded APU driver. No problem at all.

CRU refresh rate overclock working, downsamping working, RadeonPro working, Raptr GVR working, no BSOD, no TDR and game is still smooth as ever.

Tested on:
Skyrim: LE

Dota 2

Assetto Corsa

rFactor 2

Euro Truck Simulator 2

Pro Evolution Soccer 14

Game Stock Car Extreme

Battlefield 4 (Can't use Mantle on long period of time because 8GB is not enough for Ultra)

Thief

Lichdom: Battlemage

I thought I'd best register as I have just moved from a GTX 670 to an R9 290. Why? Because the 290 is faster of course.

I have never used beta drivers, as I only like to use the latest "Stable" releases. Seems to work for single card configurations.

So far, on day 1 I have had some problems, but I cannot say whether they are down to the drivers or not. Once, my fans on the 290 jumped up to 100% for two seconds, and then pulled back down. On another note, the card never downclocked after running Valley benchmark, even after killing most processes on the machine. Had to reboot.

Now, these are some random things that might/might not have to do with the drivers, so I am willing to write them off.

So in actuality, they both have been equal. I'll post more if I run into any real problems.

When moving from nVidia to AMD, and vice versa, it is best to do a complete uninstall of nVidia drivers....simply uninstalling nVidia driver isn't enough and there may be some components left in the registry. Use DDU to completely remove previous driver (especially nVidia's), then do a clean reinstall. Leftover driver components in the registry can mess up a card's performance...

  • 4 weeks later...

I got my system repaired recently, and had to replace my cpu, i got the 4790K and the Gigabyte Z97-D3H. I installed the drivers and the AMD drivers screw up my system, ie. when i use my GPU it boots fine, but all i get is just my desktop background, nothing else. I have to boot via motherboard graphics so i can uninstall the drivers. Does anyone know any fixes for this? Cos I've looked all over the internet.

Thanks :)
