dac for DT770's

as title says, i have looked around and each review of them have used different dacs. what would you say is best for $100~ aud from http://www.pccasegear.com/ or any other aus shipping sites

like i said in the op from the reviews that i have read they all used dacs and said they sounded nicer while using them, as for on board its nothing special but when i do end up getting the DT770's i should have the sabertooth mark 1 so it should be enough

Well use the headphones with your onboard before you pointlessly buying something you will more then likely not need.

You need an amp, not a DAC.

Any reason you are getting them from that website? You can get the headphones cheaper elsewhere.

It's just the placebo effect, which in audio is called "sighted listening".

A DAC = digital to analog converter. This is a chip circuit that converts digital audio signals into analog signals. 

An amp = amplifier, to amplify the analog signals fed to it, output-ing more power (wattage) than the original signals

 

Some devices got 2 of them integrated.

 

What mayflower said above, with the 250ohms most probably you'll need an amp to drive it optimally. Well, unless your onboard or whatever audio device you already have is already got enough juice for the headphone. Best thing is like emorarity said, buy the headphone first, try plugging it to your audio device, and see how it works. If it can't be set to high enough volume for normal listening (maxed volume at windows or any other OS you have), then you'll need an additional amp.

 

In reality, a different DAC and/or amp will change the sounds, for better or worse. Mind you, that the changes/differences are minuscule that you may or may not hear the difference (aside of being louder, which of course easy to distinguish )

 

Oh and from that site in the link, not many choices for DACs or amps. Normally I'd recommend Fiio products for good performance vs price. If you wanna 'invest', then get a nice DAC/amp combo, like the mayflower's O2/ODAC. It costs a bit more, but it's very good, and you can still use it when some day you upgrade your headphone to better ones. Just go to the website, or contact mayflower directly (PM him )
