amp+dac, Is it worth it?
People who ask about getting a DAC/amp need to know what they're looking for and their use purposes. If you have shitty headphones, this DAC ain't gonna do shit. Listening to music is composed of three things, the source, the player, and the output. If you have a pair of HD650s and are listening to 192 Kb/s music of your motherboard, its not gonna sound as good as listening to proper 320 or even lossless flies off a proper amp/DAC. No way, most people on this subforum have very little idea of what Hi-Fi actually is. You want to have a set up that is balanced, even the best headphones and amp/DAC can't make shitty audio files sound good, in fact, they would probably make them sound worse as you would be able to hear all the bad parts of the song, as well as the overall quality would not make it an enjoyable experience. If you're just looking for a simple amp/DAC combo, the Fiio E07k is an excellent value for money. Not only does it work as a USB DAC, but it also doubles as a portable amp for your phone or music player, and it retails for about $70 CDN. Though honestly, without a good pair of headphones, the difference on your computer would be minimal.
