Posted August 31, 2014 Hey, Is it a really stupid idea or could I put duct tape on a heat sink to make it all black? If I can't what would yo suggest to get the same effect. Thanks, SnowGhost

Posted August 31, 2014 Putting duct tape on a heatsink may prevent it from dissipating heat as effectively. Posted August 31, 2014 Lol ok, how do I change the color of a heatsink can i use vinyl or something like that? It's better to use a spray paint than to wrap it in a vinyl or plastic type insulating material, the paint will lessen heat dissipation but to a less severe degree. What heatshink are you trying to paint? Updated Modding FAQ

What heatshink are you trying to paint? Well I was thinking of buying a MSI Z97M Gaming Motherboard however I want a black motherboard so I was wondering if I could blackout the heatsinks. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=27815&cPath=1491
 I think the red accents unscrew too so it should be easy to paint.

Problem is it's an insulator since it's spray on rubber, that need multiple coats to get good coverage. Updated Modding FAQ
 If he's just painting the red accents it shouldn't be a problem as they are mainly for aesthetics rather then cooling.
 True it won't dampen it too much... but in anycase its best not to affect it in anyway Updated Modding FAQ
