Yeah, those comments always scare me. Luckily there's a site dedicated to answering that question http://isbitcoindead.com/ ;)

The problem is the short time frame given with the promotion. Obtaining Bitcoin quickly can be either difficult, or expensive. The cheapest way (market price) can often take a few to several days as most exchanges require you to being verified and transferring money into that account relies on slow banking time. Verification process can take days to weeks, and banking transfers can take several days to clear. A couple Canadian based exchanges https://www.cavirtex.com/ https://www.cointrader.net/ https://www.vaultofsatoshi.com/

There are other options of course

https://localbitcoins.com/ - Find a local trader and contact to set up a meeting time/place to purchase in person. Usually has a high markup. This can be "instant" if the seller has time to meet right then.

http://coinatmradar.com/ - If you're lucky enough to live near a Bitcoin ATM you can try that. keep in mind ATM's are privately owned and designed to make the owner profit, expect fees upwards of 5%+. That site may not have a complete list of current ATM's

http://www.mycelium.com/lt/m/ - Android Bitcoin wallet app mycelium has a local trader function built into it, here's a list of the current ads on it. Once again expect high markups.

http://howtobuybitcoins.info/ - You can browse through various ways to purchase Bitcoin based region.

Coinbase is for US only, you also need to become verified before using it. It's why I didn't mention it ;)

There are instant buying without verification using interac debit cards such as https://quickbt.com/ca/? in Canada but the daily limit is too low to make use of this promotion.

I forgot about purse.io, I did try it when it launched awhile back, and it does work but it's far from instant.

These are issues for Canadians, as the promotion is over tomorrow at midnight unless they extend it. Those in the US, their promotion doesn't begin for a few days. Plenty of time to try and get some bitcoins in anticipation.
