So I'm going to do a build for a friend, and I really want to water cool it, BUT I have very little experience with picking out parts for one, from watching a lot of videos on it I have a relatively good understanding on how to do a good loop and that I need a reservoir, pump and blocks (tubing and fittings). I only want to spend $150 on the loop but I can go up to $200, also other than a heat gun and saw/something to cut, what tools do I need? BTW tubing must be acrylic. Sorry, I really want to make this look good. Also Linus should really do a water cooling guide.

Sorry but if you want to make a custom watercooling loop you will need to spend at least $500, even more if you want hard tubing.

I suggest you get a basic AiO liquid cooler from Corsair or NZXT which cost less than $150

Good luck trying to make a loop for that cheap. You can't even get a pump/res combo for less than 150. And then add on fittings, blocks, and tubing. That can run you as high as over one grand.

This is cut and paste from another thread asking pretty much the same question. I couldn't be bothered retyping it.

Lets use frozen Cup's site

EK CPU block - EK supremacy elite = 127 USD

EK VGA Block - EK 780dcu2 = $125 USD

EK D5 Pump Vario = $115-120 USD

EK Cool Stream 240 Rad = $60 USD

EK Cool Stream 360 Rad = $76 USD

EK Tube Res = $50 - 130

Primochill PETG 4 x 36 inch clear 1/2 od tube = $11 usd

Primochill compatible fittings for the tube = $7 USD ea.

Cheapest will be around the $660 USD Mark

Most expensive options, around the $830 USD Mark.

Cooler Master Seidon 240M for $60.  You CANNOT beat this deal.  Amazing performance for very little money.

Liquid Cool for CPU for $60  Then Get a G10 + 120mm AIO + Heatsinks for the GPU totaling around $120.

BAM!  You just water cooled your system for less than $200 and temps never go above 50C with fans at 60% speed.

You could always go for the new Swiftech H220x, which gives you the ability to customize and expand at a gradual rate while still giving solid performance and that custom watercooling feel. Another option to consider. I myself use the H105 and it looks the bomb, with temp barely scratching 60 at a 4.8GHz, 1.3V overclock. Can't recommend it enough!
