Hi.

I really want to get into cars and I figured that a forum would be a good help to learn about them. What would be a good community? I need your recommendations.

Also, what would be a effective way of learning the basics and after that the more advanced stuff of the car's mechanics? Books? Youtube?

Thanks.

oppositelock.jalopnik.com, altough it isn't a forum and you need permission from the mods to be an author.

@Victorious Secret might know how to gain authorship.

Mightycarmods.com is a good community

So is EricTheCarGuys forum i suppose (Although it's less tuning focused)

Another thing you can do is to just get a cheap car. Some tools and a haynes manual for that car.

Then you could just drive it and fix it when it needs fixing, And learn that way

Buy a car on the cheaps, take it apart.

I actually want too know too so I'll be lurking here.

qft, best way to learn about cars is hands on experience

you can always read technical manuals or a detailed guide on how things works

reading car forums is going to barely teach you anything, and if you were smart to begin with, you might get a few IQ points docked.

The best way is to learn is about older tech and work your way up to the newer thing. I have been around cars my whole life so I know a great deal of them but you can watch a lot of youtube videos like from Mighty Car Mods which they do mods to their cars and show you how to do it. You need a little understand about how the mechanical aspect of a Engine works like the 4 strokes of a 4 stroke engine, how timing work and other things and you will quickly learn how everything in a car works. My favorite car company is Nissan because they are showing that how well you use technology to build a fast car and it isn't all about who has the biggest Liter engine to make the most Horsepower. A word of advice never say car motor, its called an engine and a Motor is a Electrical motor and a combustible engine. So there is a difference and proper terms does matter.

Yeah that's what I kinda thought too. All I really want is that if my car breaks, I won't be completely desperate.

Easiest way is to get your hands covered in oil and learn it all. I used to own an 85 CJ7 (It's a Jeep Wrangler) and the way I fixed it was just to get under it and start tinkering. I knew nothing about Jeeps when I started but when I sold the CJ, I knew more than I could have ever learned from reading online.

Maybe do some evening class? I was fortunate enough to have a father who loved working on cars, engines, anything. So I learned a lot that way. Best way to learn things like this is by experience, books can't teach you everything. It comes down to improvisation, and creative thinking sometimes!

It is said, that civilised man seeks out good and intelligent company, so that through learned discourse he may rise above the savage and closer to God. Personally, however, I like to start the day with a total dickhead to remind me I'm best!

I learned a lot in high school and UTI auto classes and having friends that taught me. Other than that, I read a lot of magazines. You can do that online now I suppose. I'm not very active on any car forums, but you could find one for your car and join to learn.

I'm not talking about that, I do know how to drive a car. I just want to go a bit more in depth.

if you aren't into them don't worry about it. to each his own and fuck what other people think.

I don't care what other would say, I just want to know more, just like I learned to do computer stuff.
