2011 or 1150 ?

My LGA 1155 board is dead and I can get a new 1150 or 2011 for free.  Also need a new processor for gaming, programming and video rendering

If you're only gaming get a 1150 board, if you are video rendering get the 2011 board.

If you're doing heavy video rendering: 2011 + 4930K

 

If you're gaming and CPU heavy stuff from time to time: 1150 + 4790K

 

Or whichever one your budget allows , and with 400 that's the 4790K.

so they have the same cores and threads, but the 4790k has higher clock speeds, better overclocking, lower temps, less power consumption, and newer architecture (which = more performance per core)

I don't even know how much the free MOBO is because it is under warranty for Canada Computers direct replacement plan so we shall see

I doubt he is a professional doing this as his daily job...

He's probably just playing games and making youtube videos. The 4790k is almost as fast as the 4930k at video editing, and it does better in gaming.

Plus the OP said he has a $400 budget for the CPU so the 4790k is obviously the best choice.

 

If he waits for x99 then he could get the 5820k which will basically be the same as the 4770k except with 4 extra threads, which might make his video editing a couple minutes faster....
