I am in need of some help with a build.

I am going to be building a new computer soon, and I am having trouble with making the decision: the 4670k or the 8350? Here's why...

My needs are mixed right between editing and gaming. For the most part, I will be gaming on this build. I will do some editing, but I will be gaming more. The thing is when I DO edit, it will consists of rendering lots of things in After Effects. What would do me more justice, right in between editing and gaming?

Here is the rest of the build:

4670k or 8350 CPU

Corsair H80i

MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Mobo

Corsair Vengeance 16GB dual channel RAM

WD Caviar blue 1TB

MSI Twin Frozr GTX 770 (2gb)

Corsair CX 600W PSU

All inside an NZXT H440 Red/Black Edition

I am on a budget of $1600 INCLUDING tax

Feel free to suggest any edits to the rest my part list (within the red/black color scheme if possible :D

Thanks everyone.

4670k

8350 runs hotter and uses more energy.

8350 because it's red and red is a better colour than blue clearly

JayzTwoCents used an 8350 before, and he edits videos and he claims that having 8 cores gave him a better performance than an i5, UNTIL he switched to i7.

Everyone's saying get an i5, so people are probably gonna murder me right here.

4670k

For rendering the 8350 will perform slightly better, but it's not like you can't render on a 4670k.

It might take a couple minuted longer, but so what? You're not ding it professionally on a daily basis.

When you overclock the 4670k it will definitely outperform the 8350 in 90% of your daily use.

I would say get the 8350 if editing is multi-cored optimized which it is, but you said gaming and your build had Intel in it already so I didn't change that

You could get the asus formula... the red motherboard from asus, and then it would cost the same as the Intel build

Na well the FX8350 is a good chip for rendering thats just a fact, there is nothing to argue about.

Its also better then the xeon 1230V3.

But for gaming the haswell i5 i7´s are better.

So if you want the best of both worlds, then an i7-4770K or 4790K would be the way to go.

But yeah it will be a bit of an investment.

The FX-8350 especially since you're doing editing as well but honestly for editing a i7 would be best but since you're on a budget the fx will work great just make sure to get at least a Hyper 212 evo and you will be fine. I'm not a fanboy of either processors

I would get a r9 280x also over the 770 unless you value NVIDIAS nifty features.

i would go for the i5. i mean i guess im sorta towards the intel/nvidia side of things but still, for performance in games the i5 will do great.

4670k. AMD has given up on making power CPUs. They're all about APUs now.

I have an 8350 and I was just made aware from LTT that it's bottlenecking my R9 280X in Battlefield 4.

I get 60 frames at 1080p on a dual core APU. Ask me how.

neither of them look for a xeon 1230v3 this is the same as the i7-4770 so it has hyperthreading and usualy wont cost much more than the core i5 k cpu...you cant overclock that xeon but it will render much faster than the i5 while playing games much better than the fx regardless of the clockspeed so its the best of both world if you cant afford a 4770k...

and the beauty of it is that you can pair the xeon with any cheap socket 1150 board out there wheter its a h81 or b85 or h97 they all works.

at the moment of typing this, this would be what i would go for in your case or something similar:

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($247.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI H97M-E35 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($79.99 @ Amazon)
