Might seem like a stupid question but I game on the Xbox One and i'm planning to build a gaming pc but cannot decide on a monitor. How much better is gaming at 1080p on ultra settings with AA etc compared with Xbox One Graphics?

Just much much better.

There will be a MASSIVE difference. Look at my signature if you want an idea of the performance gap between consoles and PCs.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

Miles better, just to have it at 60fps is a big difference but the increased visual fidelity will be noticable too, or you could push the boat out and go 1440p/4k/144hz

So I presume using my Sony 32" IPS LED TV with a 200 Hz refresh rate is perfect for gaming?

Yeah, you don't need much more. Nothing is perfect, as ips screens have slower response times than tn ones, but unless you're a professional gamer that should make near to no difference to you. I don't think you need a separate monitor. Do you have a build in mind for your pc, or would you like me do make one for you?

Yup it will be perfectly fine. The only thing is that the 200Hz is only for watching tv, it disables when connected to PC. The tv is only 60Hz, those "200hz" are fake frames.

Case: Phanteks Entho Primo

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K or the Broadwell equivalent

Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Formula

RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 1600mHz 16GB

SSD: 120GB Kingston HyperX 3K & 256Gb Samsung 850 Pro

HDD: 2TB WD Caviar Black

PSU: Corsir RM 750 or AX760i with red sleeved cable kit

CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X61

GPU: GTX 880 or EVGA GTX 780ti SC with ACX Cooler

Peripherals: Razer Ouroboros and Corsair Vengeance K70 Cherry MX Red

Noctua Industrial PPC 140mm 3000 rpm fans for the X61

I think i'm all sorted and this build I know is overkill for 1080p but i might invest in the new samsung 32" 1440p monitor or likewise so the 780ti/880 can be justified

Wow that's a luxury build indeed! I have a couple of tips though: kingston ssds have been reported to perform slower than advertised.

Also, I can point you to a much better choice of graphics card: instead of spending so much money for a 780ti, you could get for the same price or even less, two R9 290s in crossfire and that would give you 80% better performance and the ability to play at 4k 60fps with ultra settings, if you leave aa off (you don't need aa at 4k anyway). To go with that you should go for a corsair rm 850 though, it's not much more expensive than the 750 anyway don't worry. The prices of 4k monitors are dropping wildly so if I were you I'd jump on the train!

It'll be a lot prettier, especially with mods, but that's only one reason to get a PC (and alone wouldn't justify the costs to me).

PCs are better for a number of other, and in my eyes more important reasons:

- Access to games older than your console, and older than the last generation of consoles.

- Cheaper games

- Free online play

- Everyone needs a PC anyway for general PC stuff so it isn't hard to invest a little into decent components and a good GPU to get gaming with

- Mods

- Better framerates

I'd also advise with that build of yours to get the Enthoo pro, it's cheaper and excellent, a cheaper motherboard, and use what money you save to either get crossfire 290s/SLI 780s (instead of a 780ti or single card), or a 1440p monitor.

Maybe an 840 EVO 120GB would be better than the kingston. Tbh the only difference between the AXi and RM series PSU is the efficiency and i can still use the sleeved cables so the RM 850 seems like the better option. I would go for that GPU config but i'm not so sure about AMD cards

I have one, works great :) unless you want a very specific feature like physx I recommend the R9 290 crossfire. There used to be big driver issues in the past with amd but nowadays they've mostly been solved. This forum is also full of people using amd card and they will all tell you they are satisfied with the experience.

If all of their ssds would perform slower NOONE would buy them. I have a 240gb 3k ssd and i'm getting about the advertised speeds. For those that had slower performance than adverstised, it might be just a defective ssd.

That could be the case. All though, *going back to the actual topic* if he's buying a system listed above, he may go for some of the higher performing ssds, like the intel 730 series, or the 840 evo
