RayBalls

Hey Guys!

Which GPU do you think

Is best for Star Citizen and battlefield 4

I'm Planning to roll with an i7-4790K

If that helps with anything

290X or 295X2 or Crossfire 290X's (since they are cheaper than a 295X2)

They both (will eventually, since SC doesn't yet) support Mantle and more VRAM is always best for such games imo.

Add in AMD's consistent FPS (as opposed to Nvidia's potential FPS) take on GPUs and I consider it the best option. That's just me though. I could be wrong.

Well best would be the best performing GPU out there. I know Star Citizen will need a ton of horse power to run it. What about a 780 or 780 ti?

Setup: i5 4670k @ 4.2 Ghz, Corsair H100i Cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB Ram @ 1600 Mhz, MSI Z87-GD65 Motherboard, Corsair GS700 2013 edition PSU, MSI GTX 770 Lightning, Samsung EVO 120 SSD + 2TB&1TB Seagate Barracudas, BenQ XL2411T Monitor, Sennheiser HD 598 Headphones + AntLion ModMic 4.0

Without sounding coy, the best you can afford

A location and Budget would help :) and maybe the specs of the rest of your system

$700

Crossfire R9 290s would fit into that budget

Or a single 780ti

(or even an R9 290x)

Are you kidding me? You recommend a 295X2?

He is right though on the rest. Both star citizen and BF4 support mantle. In BF4 mantle has been reported to increase framerates by as much as 40% and I expect around the same numbers for Star citizen. An R9 290 will most likely suffice though If you have the money an R9 290X Vapor-x is fantastic.

Then definitely two 290X's. You can get some "like new" ones off of Ebay with their warranties in tact if you look for $300-$400. I did anyway.

That was if the budget was limitless since he didn't post one. Definitely 290Xs with that budget.

1. The 850W PSU is mega overkill unless you plan to CF in the future

2. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f314900cl8d8gbxm this is better ram for a lower price

3. No need to take the Maximus Hero. An MSI Z97 Gaming 3/5/7 will do just fine as well.

Then IMO your best single GPU option is a 780ti   (or you could get a good R9 290x)

Or you could get 2x r9 290 and run them in crossfire they can be had for $350 each so thats $700 in a pair

Desktop - Corsair 300r i7 4770k H100i MSI 780ti 16GB Vengeance Pro 2400mhz Crucial MX100 512gb Samsung Evo 250gb 2 TB WD Green, AOC Q2770PQU 1440p 27" monitor Laptop Clevo W110er - 11.6" 768p, i5 3230m, 650m GT 2gb, OCZ vertex 4 256gb,  4gb ram, Server: Fractal Define Mini, MSI Z78-G43, Intel G3220, 8GB Corsair Vengeance, 4x 3tb WD Reds in Raid 10, Phone Oppo Reno 10x 256gb , Camera Sony A7iii

If you are willing to do it...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ASUS-R9290X-4GD5-Radeon-R9-290X-4GB-512-Bit-GDDR5-PCI-Express-3-0-/321485938594?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item4ada0e1fa2

A wee bit over your budget, but hey, there you go. ASUS' manufacturer warranty is 3 years, so it being used should be irrelevant. They both have good/great feedback too.

For 700 Id say its a toss up between the MSI lightning r9 290x and a gtx 780 TI. The R9 290x might have a slight edge in bf4 because its an AMD optimized game that supports mantle.

You could also save 200 and go with a gigabyte windforce 290x, then put that money towards another 290x in crossfire, which will save you 400 total over 2 gtx 780TIs in SLI and give you  probably better performance at higher resolutions than 1080p. You could then use the 400 you saved on other things to increase performance.

The r9 290x is probably more future proof than the 780 TI as well because of its extra gig of vram. The 3gb the 780ti has could prove to be a liability in upcoming games. We've already seen that with watchdogs.

A couple of 290's will blow the 290x/780 Ti out of the water. Go with 2 of those.

IMO 2 of whatever you can afford. I wouldn't make a decision based on API tho. DirectX 12 isn't far off however Star Citizen is likely a year away from a solid/optimized build, probably a little longer for release.

For Battlefield any good current gen card should run it butter smooth.
