The R9 270 is vastly superior to the 750ti in terms of processing power so try to get your hands on that, if not in the price range aim for the R7 265 wich is also a good 10% faster than a 750ti.

GTX 750 ti, R7 265, the choice depends on your preferred brand

If you live in the US, you can get an R9 270 for $130 after rebate.  That is a very good card for a low price.  The 750Ti is also a good option, but the R9 270 is a much, much better card.

 

Also, don't be afraid of used cards.  If you buy through Craigslist, make sure you can thoroughly test the card.  If through ebay, make sure returns are accepted and you test the card as soon as you receive it.

R9 270, overclock it and it will play most games 1080p maxed out.
